Suddenly Unstable

I could use any possible help, and hopefully this is the place to put this. Rome just started acting very...odd. None of the opening cinematics show up. It goes from the usual screen at the beginning with all the copyright stuff straight to the load screen. The background cinematics on the menu screen are gone, replaced with the still phalanx image from the laoding screen. The opening cinematics for the factions are also not coming up. And last but not least, the game starts to lock up and crash during the first battle I engage in.

My computer is more than up to specs. My drivers are up to date. Any thoughts on what's up? I'm totally clueless. I did TWO clean installations and each time it's done the same thing.

Try reinstalling Windows Media Player. Mine did that a while back, and no videos would play. I'd get a black box during "Faction destroyed" messages in BI. Reinstalling WMP fixed it. I have no idea what went wrong.

Was it working prior to updating your Graphics drivers?

If it was, roll your drivers back to the version where it was working - Rome hasn't liked certain drivers I've tried to update with.

It was working perfectly for the longest time, then this. I've had the game and BI since they came out and never had anything like this. I'll try both your suggestions--WMP and the driver bit. I appreciate it.
