Persoanlly, I agree with most of what In read of Chavez's speech. I don't like him allying with Iran and Syria, however.

The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail; its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storm may enter; the rain may enter; but the King of England cannot enter – all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement! - William Pitt the Elder
It would be pretty sweet if two blocks of prime, waterfront realty were to become available in midtown Manhattan. And even though I've been out of New York for almost a year, I still remember hating the drivers with diplomatic plates. (And why were so many of the diplo cars junkers? Doesn't Sri Lanka care enough to have its U.N. representative drive a decent car?)
Doesn't that indicate to you just what kind of man he is and how to regard his statements you like so much? Do you really trust this guy, the one who claims to rally against oppression while he allies with oppressors?Originally Posted by Tachikaze

I never understood why they went for Nova York in the first place. If I had been on the committee, I'd have been pushing for Papeete. I mean, if you have to listen to that stuff for that many hours a day, is an evening of poi and a little surfing too much to ask for?
UN out of NYC, Caracas is fine by me -- but how about Port-au-Prince? Good beach weather and an economy that truly needs the infusion of money.

I think the reason they are in NY is the fact it is a safe place, relatively speaking.

Chavez is the greatest politician and demagogue of the 21st century. Period.
Now about the UN. I really like the job the UN does in the world and I'm satisfied, even if they make some mistakes. We've to bear in mind that the UN is not an State of states, is just a congregation ruled by convention. Many times I've the feeling that people forget that, and that one of the main influences on sovereingty of the State was exactly and still is the USA (wich is good).
Even so, I don't know if everyone is watching the news, but Chavez has no need of the UN to preach to his heart content, he now has almost all support and power on the NOAL (Movement of Non-Aliniated Countries), wich has the support of more than 100 countries around the world.
His alliance (mostly commercial) with Syria and Iran show how good he's to take opportunities. With two of the permanent members of the Security Counsel of UN giving their support to a pacifist nuclear program, it's exactly the best time to ally to fellow demagogues and perform two important alliances wich could generate great profits in the future and also an improvement of technology in all areas, but the military is very specific. Also he can take adventage of the public opinion against Israel (forming a combo with the US), wich is pretty well spread within latin america, and call Bush whatever he wants with total impunity, mantain good diplomacy relationships with the States he wants, keep the media at bay and secure a favourable public opinion in the intern aspect...
I mean some people just born to do this.

Move the UN to Dublin. Everybody likes Ireland. The traffics a joke but at least there are great golf courses. Plus Dublin is safer relatively speaking than NYC and it would be a justification for the harsh security checks going through Dublin Airport.Originally Posted by Seamus Fermanagh
Also I think Chavez is an embarassment. Licking up to Lukaschenko was what turned me totally against him. All due respect to Naom Chomsky, but who brandishes on of his books infront of the UN and expects people to take him seriously?

I'm really liking this Chavez fellow. Sure he's a dictatorial bonehead, but the world is full of dictatorial boneheads, and the only reason some people don't like him is because he's not one of our dictatorial boneheads. Trumanesquely speaking.
(Truth be known, if Chavez was one of our dictatorial boneheads selling the US oil at $20 a barrel and buying loads of F-16s with cash to invade Cuba, he'd be sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom at the White House and declared a great patriot of freedom no matter how badly he abused his own people.)
We need divergent opinions. The point is that he steps up, states his case with conviction, and gives the finger to the authorities. That's worth it's weight in gold. As much as their side is wrong, it's more than likely that our side is wrong too, and both sides need to be criticized loudly and publicly. That's how freedom works.

Isn't it funny that Bush makes his address and gets very little positive reaction from any of the delegates present .
Chavez makes his address and the chair has to finally ask for the applause to stop so they can get on with the next speaker .
Is it just that Bush gave out the same old tired crap that everyone already knows is counterfactual rubbish and Chavez put out a pile of crap that actually included some decent points worth thinking about ?
Truth is truth; it doesn't matter who says it. I can watch the world and make my own judgements. He is a good observer. Yes, he is grandstanding, and, yes, he has his own agenga. But he is right about the aggressive and oppressive nature of US international politics.Originally Posted by Vladimir

So you blame god for your own derangement Dave , thats a bit harsh .I believe I would go see a head shrinker or do some soul searching (or adjust my chemical balances in my brain as there is no "god" in your circles).
She is rather busy after all .
Of course you do and that's why, and THANK GOD for this, people such as yourself, Hugo, most democrats, the main stream media, as well as a multitude of other mentally deranged leftist that prop up the fith column in our country will always show your true colors before you can do too much more damage to this country than what your ilk have already done. Keep preaching old Chomsky like your bud Hugo, it makes it easier to realise what sort of "freedom" we would enjoy under a leader of your political leanings. I wonder if Hugo would allow a speach like his in his country? Boy Tachi, if I was agreeing with dictators and jihadists, I believe I would go see a head shrinker or do some soul searching (or adjust my chemical balances in my brain as there is no "god" in your circles).Originally Posted by Tachikaze
