    Default Hussars

I planned to get more of them but somehow they got routed before I had a chance to spot their unit.

    Good looking unit

Those are some cool pics at your forum Callatian. Thanks for sharing them!

The HRE has some unit called "Forlorn Hope". Look like Doppelsoldners! I didn't think the swords could get any bigger than the Zweihander but I think I was wrong!

Also I see that Halberdiers form a special sort of formation when stationary- kneeling and holding the halberd overarm? Also the German Reiters make an appearance. As long they are not represented as simply a variety of horse archer this could be very good for early modern warfare mods.

well thats quite strange because (im sure you all know this) the zweihanders and this forlorn hope are exactly the same faction... how yronic

Yeah. It looks different to the formation which you can see pikemen using in other screenshots, where they hold the pike underarm and those at the sides also protrude. This formation seems strange but I'm hoping that it's indicative of CA really researching their subject and trying to represent it accurately, as I do sometimes find that things which seem counter-intuitive to me actually turn out to be historically accurate. For instance naked Celts.

I know the Zweihanders and these "Forlorn Hope" soldiers are both HRE. Are you saying they are the same unit? They look completely different if that's what you mean (not saying it is).

very strange, but historically (almost) correct. In reality there were 4 ranks that pointed there pikes to the enemy, not three.

    sorrry, forgot to mention

that formation TB666 is better than the phalanxes in rome however, its more realistic with the guys kneeling down on the floor because in Rome thespear of a back line, go through the shields and bodies of the first, if u look closely

Damn, there's always a catch. I suspect that CA has created only one formation to be used with both short polearms (e.g. halberds) and long ones (pikes).

So they actually pointed the pikes downwards ??

well im not saying that they are the same, because they would be the same name (unless of course it was a nickname for the zweihanders)

Well - that image is old .... didn't you guys seen that topic? ... i initially released on different topics before I made the MTW2 subforum - maybe it got left behind. Damn ... I was shoked when I lost 5 months of forum database.

You forum was wiped out? That's very unfortunate. Thanks for posting the screenshots again then.

Hmm I don't like the way the polish hussars look, but that HRE pikeman unit and formation looks absolutely amazing. It's way better than the old RTW phalanx units where spears stuck through the shields and bodies of the front ranks, and is more historical as well. If they've put this much effort into making gorgeous and historical formations for each rank of men in a unit, I'll be thrilled.

"So they actually pointed the pikes downwards ??"

Hoplites often fought overhand and pointed downwards. The rear ranks of pikes might well do the same thing, since in real life they couldn't just ram their pikes through the shields and backs of the men in front, and pikes waving 5 feet above their opponents don't do anything.

Well I noticed that the angle of the shot decieved me a bit.
The 2 row is clearly pointing the pikes straight forward while the 3rd row is pointing slightly downwards because of the way they are holding the pike.
Very nice work by CA there

Very nice pike formation there and yes it is actually accurate (though as noted, 4 ranks of pikes were used, but you can't win em all i guess).

    No.
There was only one such event and that was for people that lived in the same city where CA worked.
Also those that did get in aren't allowed to say.

    Yes.
Most closed-betas I have been apart of made me sign a contract saying that I'm not allowed to talk about it which inclueded telling that I was even in the beta.

Polish Hussars were late period troops for Polish army. They were heavily armored cavalry force far different from Serbian, Croatian and Hungarian fashion. Armed and armored to the teeth plus long lances and pistols.

Not yet, they got the wings and heavier armour after 1577, before were little different than Hungarian ones - see the first post after the initial one directly above.

Dude those are some awesome pics!! Thanks for sharing :)

The campaign map picture on the faction selection screen is particularly illuminating :) I love strategic maps, and I can't wait to get my hands on this game at this point. Portugal's position looks particularly interesting with 2 provinces that are not connected by land. Also looking at that map I can conclude that the central european powers (HRE, Poland, Hungary) will not be in nearly as insane a position as in MTW1 where they had to face threats of incursion on all fronts. Especially now that it's not risk-style and people will have to walk to their towns.

Gah, your pics really have me tweaked man, I'm trying to put a good system together in time for the game to come out...gah...can't wait :)
