Default Benedictine Monks are main cause of anti-social behaviour

The Glorious Executive of the People's Republic of Scotland have proclaimed in their wisdom that a group of monks do something to their wine which causes widespread anti-social behaviour.

    Article

We must all praise the Executive on their decision to condemn these monks and their evil drink.

Just curious, but what is the legal drinking age in Scotland? What kind of education about the "evils of drink" do Scottish parents customarily give to the young?

It's all rather like blaming the gun for the murder isn't it?

The legal drinking age is 5, as long as it is in private with an adult present.
To purchase alcohol, it is 18.

There is not much education to teach us not to drink alcohol, just to drink in moderation. Some parents do discourage from drinking altogether, but those who want to get round this do so by attending a sleep-over of somesort.

If you're talking Buckfast, it is an abomination. But it is not the root of the problem. If anything needs removing, that would be, well, the 'yoofs'. Send them to Afghanistan, or something. We need the extra manpower anyway.

Thats not a bad idea actually, send a load of drunk, angry young Scots over there. The Taliban would surrender almost immidiately.

Drunk, angry young Scots? Isn't that the British Army? Wellington would certainly recognise the description.

No, that is not the British Army. and Wellington's "Scum of the Earth" quote is usually taken out of context, as his next words were "but look what we made of them."

The British Army takes angry, drunk, young men and turns them into clean-cut fighting men, with a world-class reputation, earned by not allowing their own kit to get them killed.

That said certain Squaddies now seem to be doing a nice side-line in Class A drugs.

If Michael Jackson has any guts there will be a raft of dishonourable discharges and a complete purge.

Back on topic: Buckfast Abbey is a nice place and the Monks are a bunch of well meaning chaps. I expect this is just another example of the Scottish Executive hating anything that isn't 115% Scottish.

when he claimed in an interview that Buckfast was "an irresponsible drink... in its own right".
    Why? Does it sleep around?

"I think there's something different about that drink that does something to, particularly, our young people.
Must be the special type of alcohol you get in it

"Buckfast is one drink of many that young people abuse and to focus on that one drink is missing the point. We need to tackle the culture of heavy drinking rather than being distracted by talking about Buckfast."
    What a novel idea.

Blaming Buckfast because it has a higher alcohol content than other wines is a complete cop out, what about Vodka? Should that be banned too? Tackle the cause you eejit.

Anyway, as thay say in Scotland, "Buckfast gets you ****** fast".
