Default looking for a naval game

I'm looking for a good naval game, but the catch is that I have a fairly old computer (cpu 1,3 Gh). I'm not looking for stunning graphics, my priority is the game play. All settings are fine by me although I would prefer the more modern times (with WWI as most prefered).

    Thanks in advance

    This should work fine,

Twister on a bumpy sea is more fun though.

This is reffering to the control and gameplay issues?

One game I've been keeping my eye on is Pacific Storm, which was just released. My computer probably can't run it (it's even older than yours Phil!), but it looks promising. Gotta read the reviews first, though.

Heh, I've head a genine P-133 with an ATI Rage (pro!) graph card from 1997. to 2005. - and now I'm a proud owner of a PIII-9...something Mhz with a GF 2 graph card. Yey! :)

Chek out "Fighting Steel" it's a WW2 battleship game with a cranking dynamic campaign engine, but there are mods...

Chek out www.subsim.com - it's not just about the sub sims, also a storehouse of just about every patch and mod available for modern naval sims.

As Silent Hunter 2 ran smoothly even on my old P-133 (with the graphics shot in the head) it should run fine on youer comp. But the missinos are scripted, no dynamic camp i'm afraid. Many huge fan made mods for the game - fun for the whole family!

Chek out Dangerous Waters and that sequel to Jane's FC for a real challenge!

Also, might try out Age of Sail 2 for some intense ship of the line duels, but the game does it's thing only in instant action and single missions - the campaign is utter crap. Can't beat the game's representation of the trafalgar battle, though... but that's just my Nelson fetish again! :)

Good hunting - and keep a watch for those torpedo trails, eh? ;)

I would not recommend Age of Sail II. For the single player, it was pretty much an almost unplayable, un-functional bug fest--even after 5 patches.

There was a small devoted on-line community, but I think they are all gone now.

However, Akella finally re-vamped and re-issued the game with different publisher under the name Privateer--AOS II.

I have been told this version is stable and relatively bug free. While the original strictly covered a period starting with Napoleonic naval warfare and up through the War of 1812, the re-issue added some Jules Verne elements like primitive submarines and hot air balloons.

For me the re-issue was too little and too late. I should have been sent the game free for being an un-paid beta tester on their first piece-o-crap.

If you have an older system, both Fighting Steel and Silent Hunter 2 should work OK since they are older games. They should also be dirt cheap now.

There is also a faily new early period naval combat wargame about the Russo-Japanese war. Here's a link

    http://distantguns.xtreme-gamer.com/

It is sold as downloadable only, but there is a demo and also a free 30 day trial of the full game. While the system specs aren't too demanding, they may be a small step above what you quoted, so you might try the demo to see if it will run on your system.

Windows XP installed on your PC
An Internet Connection with a valid email address
PC that is at least 1.5 GHz Intel or AMD Compatible
    Minimum of 512MB of Ram
A 3D Video Card capable of running Direct X 9
275 MB of Hard Drive space.
