    Default 300 Spartans

Well, it looks like Frank Miller's '300' will be a visually stunning film if this trailer is anything to go by, and entertaining.

Blech. 300 Spartans, and 3000 others did not stand by and do their duty to be treated thusly.

Yeah, I just saw the trailer yesterday. It made me want to weep--and not with joy. Why couldn't they have based it off of Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire instead? That would have been a million times better.....

If it's a good film, I won't care about the 'it's not historical' brigade, I'll enjoy it and it will hopefully generate enormous interest in ancient Greek history; if not, then I'll slate it.

If I want the most contemporary account possible then I'll read Herodotus, in classical Greek.

Maybe the Spartans will fight with an underarm motion with sarisassas... because that would be realistic (CA)

Too many corny speeches for my liking. But I will probably end up seeing it anyway.

Besides, they seem to be portrayed a bit barbarically, don't you think? Just because they had a very unusual recruitment system... Also, the mother of the child was acting as if the child had been taken away from her; as a baby? I thought they only begun training when they were 7 years old.

Please explain to me what a movie has to do with "historical accuracy"?

I greatly enjoyed the graphic novel, which is a masterpiece in visual storytelling.
If the conversion to movie is as nicely done as in Sin City the movie will be very entertaining to watch. Oh, and trailers always tend to include some catch lines to awake interest....Remember this is still Hollywood, not Herodotus.

    Are the speeches laconic?
