Default How does a Shinobi gain honour?

Hello there, this is my first post. I am buying the total war series in order of production and have been enjoying Shogun for about a month. I always play as Imagawa :)

Anyway how does a Shinobi gain honour apart from building a famous/legendary tea house? As Shinobi can't assasinate, can they gain honour through playing alone?

    Thanks.

    welcome to the forum, motorcycle!

shinobi are spies and gain experience by doing spy work. in your provinces they quell unrest and root out enemy shinobi and ninja (assassins). in enemy territory they create unrest and possibly make the province rebel.

Their honor goes up by capturing enemy spies.

To elaborate just a bit on what Sasaki said: Shinobi do gain honor by capturing enemy spies (and assassins, IIRC). However, border forts get the first "crack" at capturing enemy units. So if a border fort stops a spy/assassin, then your Shinobi in that province does *not* get the credit for capturing him, and therefore doesn't increase his honor.

So to maximze results, station Shinobi in your provinces (especially border provinces), but do not build border forts. (It's still okay to build watchtowers, though.) That way all enemy agents will be caught by him, and he'll gain honor fairly quickly.

thanks very much for your replies and welcomes :)

On the current game I'm playing, I had a border fort and a shinobi stationed in Totomi. However the Mori clan sent a 851 men army through my port (undetected) and when my army retreated to the castle, the Mori destroyed almost all my infrastructure and then went home. Very cunning! Possibly this was due to the Shinobi having 0 honour, and the Mori ninja/emissary having high honour.

    Welcome to the Sword Dojo!

One thing I'd like to add - If you shinobi's are settled in a region that is not yours, and a revolt starts in that region, one, or more (if you have more in that region) shinobi sometimes get honour points as well. They'll become better in causing revolts and capturing enemy ninja's/shinobi's.
