Default Is Kim Jong Il on Ken Mehlman's payroll?

I'm serious about this. We have two swirling controversies that threaten the Republican Congressional majorities this Fall. We have a House leadership that is defending itself against charges that they were aware of Rep. Foley's inappropriate behavior and covered it up. And Secretary Rice is attempting to fend off accusations that she had been warned of generalized but serious warnings over terror activity in the summer of 2001 but in her role as head of the NSA ignored them.

Just when things couldn't get any bleaker for the Republicans, just when people thought there couldn't possibly be a way out of this for them, along comes the wild man with the wild hair. Kim Jong Il doing what he does best: pissing off the rest of the world and scaring them crapless.

As the generally 'hawkish' foreign policy party, this couldn't have come at a better time for the Republicans. I can hear the party ads now.... "John Kerry himself said he would ask China, Russia and France for permission to defend ourselves against a nuclear armed North Korea. Do you really want the Democrats to be in charge when Kim Jong Il starts putting nuclear warheads on ICBMS and sending them to the launch pad?"

I mean is it just me, or is the timing on these things amazing?

(Ken Mehlman is the chairman of the Republican National Committee).

I'll believe it when i see satellite photos or seismic reading. The guys has 50 years worth of artillery shells saved up, most of them of the Russiian-blow-up-in-your-face crappy engineering variety. If North Korea does a nuclear test they are likely to kill of the last 500 non-military citizens they have left

I find the idea that democrats wouldnt defend against a direct attack by another country as absurd as it is unprecedented

I personally don't think the Democrats would hesitate to confront such a direct threat either. I was speaking in character as a Republican shill for a second, as to how it will be spun.

I think the sad little man is just doing whatever he can to stay on the world's stage- he's probably jealous of all the attention Iran is getting. He clearly has no intention of giving up his nukes, yet he still needs to negotiate some sort of aid settlement with the US to keep his country's economy limping along.

He's probably hoping for a sweet deal like the last one he got that pays him off to stop nuclear research while being unverifiable enough to allow him to continue it in secret. Let's hope his latest test goes as well as his missile tests did.

I don't disagree, Xiahou. I think it's very telling that they won't announce a date, a time or a location. You'd think he'd hold off shooting his mouth off until he had the seismic recordings to back his claims up, but then intelligence is not something Pyongyang has an overabundance of.

Not even a nuclear war could save the Reps now. One of them was caught sending suspect messages to young boys! There's evil gays in the party!
