Oh well , the UN did gone done a report on the killing of the 4 UN observers by a precision guided 500kg bomb in Lebanon .

Not a complete report of course as they ran into problems with obtaining facts from those involved at an operational level , you know those who actually did the deed .
So , any thoughts ?

A simple question Seamus , what do you think of the incomplete report on the "terrible accident" that the UN has been able to produce since the people involved in this "oh so sorry" mishap are not being allowed to be interviewed to determine how their precision munitions (after repeated requests not to) managed to directly impact on a well marked big white painted target .
So since the operational vesion is unobtainable the report has to go on the rather dubious higher level claim that the maps were "in error" or "out of date" , which is curious since it was a decades old post , that would be clearly marked on maps supplied by the UN to all involved paties .

So was the thoroughly modern Israeli airforce using maps from the ottoman empire era perhaps ?

Ah maps......
well if there like UK MOD maps they will be pretty poor, for example according to my cartography lecture at uni who dose some teaching for the MOD maps are apparently simply titled "Map" so if they cant even put what the map is in fact a map of in the title it dose not do well for quality of the map itself.

Also it is important to note that maps are a representation of the reality a very much simplified representation from the eyes of the cartographer who maid the map so depending on the quality of the said map mistakes can arise when map is used.

Your contention is, of course, that the Israelis -- at least the operational commander for that mission, if not the decision of a higher echelon -- purposefully targeted the UN. To what purpose?

Note: That is a question, not a jibe. Since the IDF has hammered at least one US ship claiming faulty identification, I am aware that friendly fire isn't.

Yes it is Israel at fault , they said they would fully co-operate with the investigation to determine how the "accident" happened . They have not co-operated have they .

For Israel to not supply the information it is ALL Israels fault , unless you want to try and argue that hezballah has a hand in Israel not co-operating with the investigation .

Also an airstrike doesn't sounds that confusing especially when the party who threw that bomb repeatedly claims that they are very precise.
If a miliatry commander is too confused to think, he should not decide about the lives of people.
Or what would you say if you went to hospital because your feet hurt and woke up with both arms amputated, would you just say: "Well, that's the confusion in a modern hospital...."?

When do Israel cooperate? When have they been investigated about the open secret of having nuclear weaponry?

For an army that likes to think of itself as so advanced, it is difficult to believe that destroying an outpost which has been present for years and also identified itself was not deliberate.

Israel is basically going to stonewall so that there is no one who can be blames per se, as there is no concrete evidence. The UN is to weak to do anything about this.

Let's see... That was 4 soldiers killed. Israel invaded due to 2 bieng captured. Looks like we'll need to carpet bomb Israel for a bit.

The apology-explanation thingy they handed the Finnish gov't recently (one of the dead UN folks was a Finn) claimed something like the observation station - which has been sitting in a prominent place for around thirty years in a region the IDF has precisely mapped down to a rock - had been forgotten from the map that had been uploaded into the plane that dropped the bomb.

Which sounds about as credible as the creative excuses one hears after ugly oil spills and the like IMHO.

Why exactly the IDF (or their bosses) would have wished to turn the post to a rubble is another thing, but then the whole conflict was pretty absurdly convoluted and quite frankly the logic Israel often runs by can be somewhat difficult to grasp or comprehend to outsiders.

Well Don , you could read a newspaper about the story , you could visit the UN news site for the report , you could also read a newspaper about Kofis statement on the report , or you could get that statement at the UN itself .
You could even accept my take on what it says
