Error on my pc

When I start my pc, my monitor stays black. My monitor is on, and is not broken, I think it has something to do with my pc, but I don't know what. It has been so since I cleaned my videocard and put it back, but the problem does not seem to be in the card. My pc boosts up but i just don't get any reaction on the screen, the screen is quite new. My dad thinks it might be a cirquit.

any of you have had something simular or might know what it is... any help is apreciated

I had something similar but then my PC didn't boot up at all, and my HD got fried too, so it's boudn to be different.

Mandatory question: Are all the cables plugged in and is the power on ?

Now that that's out of the way:

Can you check your monitor ? Plug it into another PC ? Can you plug another monitor into your PC ?
If you can do these things then at least you know whether or not it's your monitor.

If you don't get any image at all and your monitor works and your PC sounds like it's booting up okay it's probably your videocard. Maybe try taking it out and putting it back in again ?

Check the Monitor cable connection and look if the card is properly inserted.
When booting, does the PC beep differently than before?

my monitor is fine, i know that because i plugged the monitor in on my dad's laptop and it worked fine. so the problem is either in the videocard or... the i dont know what...

all cables are/were plugged in btw

i also took out and put back in the video card twice...

You say that this only happened after you cleaned your vid card?

Do you have another PC in the house? If so, swap vid cards and see what happens.

Or ask a friend if you can borrow their vid card.

Do you have an on-board video card ? Then you could try using that.

we have eliminated the videocard by trying another videocard... even without videocard it gives an error... the problem seems to be in either my memory or my harddrive
