What i do not understand is why Americans call the Canadians war dodgers as far as i can remember the canadians turned up to all the important wars before the USA.

I have to second the question, though: I wasn't aware we Americans thought of Canadians as war dodgers.
I seem to recall they deployed significant numbers of troops to fight in both World Wars, and even sent a contingent of soldiers to Afghanistan in 2002. In fact, the only major wars I'm aware of that Canada has avoided (from the last century or so) was Vietnam and Iraqi Freedom.
