Hi, I have a question. Why aren't Junior Members allowed to edit their own posts?
Afterall, a single mistake could sometimes change the whole meaning of a post.
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I just find it curious.

I think that it is only there to give a purpose and a benefit to being promoted to member.

1) It is supposed to force you to think about what you are posting rather than regretting rash words later.
2) It stops a new member bent on making trouble to post all manner of forum rule violations, getting existing members angry/upset and then going back to their post and editing out the "evidence" before any moderators can see it.

But it can be irritating at times, typo's, things you now need to double post for
But there is a "spell check" button right next to "submit reply" and "preview post".

Really? You learn something new everyday.

If you place your mouse over the "edit" button then it says "edit/delete message". So vB must support it, however the mods and administrators must have disabled it.Originally Posted by Caius Flaminius

If mods can do it then why can't members delete their posts?Originally Posted by Tiberius
Hmmm...that's an interesting idea. Was there a problem with this in the past?Originally Posted by Gregoshi

My memory is a bit fuzzy at times, but I seem to recall at least one incident. Not being able to edit is a pain but generally Junior Members need only endure the "pain" for a week or two before being promoted.Originally Posted by Maximus Meridius

Testing some editing options.... Gah....why can't I delete?

So a natural follow-up question would be...Originally Posted by Caius Flaminius
....why is it disabled? Actually "soft-deleting" posts would be a nice feature to give to members, because the mods could always see them anyways, if necessary.
Double posting helps pad their post count, and decrease the time till they are promoted. A few double posts shouldn't be that bad...
RIP Tosa, I can't believe you are gone, but we will never forget you
Or so it would if promotion was determined by postcount. Which it isn't.Originally Posted by ByzantineKnight

Yup true, but do you really keep track of all the new people on the site?

Sometimes people slip by, but generally those are the slow posters, not the fast ones.Originally Posted by Stig

Yeah but if I get that in Dutch it won't work for English sites.
Furthermore I heard it's quite irritating as it underlines every word that's spelled wrong. So also for words I want to have spelled wrong.
How is being informed irritating, and if it annoys you, you can disable it.
