    Default Basic RTW Questions

    1) What are the requirements for a heroic victory? I've only gotten one so far and when I looked at the battle numbers it didn't really seem -that- heroic when compared to some of my other battles.

    2) Fire arrows, to use or not to use? I don't really understand their purpose, do they just increase attack and lower accuracy?

    3) How do you get rid of a horde of money? I've been playing very hard campaigns and I still end up having too much money. I get up to 50-60,000 and then my heirs all get bad traits. Every turn I always make sure units are being recruited and buildings built in every province, I've spent several thousand in bribes, and several more thousand on mercenaries. Currently I'm only holding three settlements, have about 2200 soldiers, a dozen agents, and 20-30 ships, but I'm still making approx. 2000 denari (sp?) a year, please help!

The fire arrows have lower accuracy, but they have a great effect on morale.
Do not use when the enemies runs, because they are too slow and the slowest accuracy makes no damage.

    Sorry for the others questions.

Make full stacked armies and your money will start going down as you have to pay the legions.

It seems that heroic victory occurs when you win the battle against the odds, killing most of the enemy soldiers.

The Miracle of Marathon would have been a heroic victory. ;)

    1) Heroic victories are only awarded when you utterly destroy an enemy army that is either superior or more or less on a level footing with your own. It's best to attempt battles where the Battle odds are around 1:1 if you want to get heroic victories, but also to gain command stars easier as well.

    2) Fire arrows will cause elephants to run amok, as well as reduce the morale of enemy troops. I use them in sieges when I wish to be able to keep firing arrows at the enemy for a longer period of time. When you're attacking a wooden walled settlement for example, often defending units will run back and forth from behind the wall. If you use fire arrows on them, the rate of fire is slow enough for you to be able to stop your archers firing when the unit is protected by their shield, then tell them to fire again when the defending unit turns around and no longer has the shield protecting their side. Better still, fire when they turn their backs on your archers for maximum casualties. You end up exhausting several enemy units who march back and forth along the wall, and also give yourself time to maneouvre units around the other flanks, all whilst killing at the same time.

    3) If you have loads of money, spend it. I never have lots of money because my armies tend to take up most of the income. Later on buildings become incredibly expensive to build, and you often need about 20,000 just to fill the build queues for that turn. But if you only have a few cities, then you will accumulate money. That's reason enough to expand, and with expansion corruption increases and you need to field more and more armies to protect your borders, as well as massive garrisons to retain order so the profits soon begin to deteriorate. Besides, if you're swimming in cash and your family members pick up bad traits - so what? You have so much cash you can laugh off any negative traits.

You can also give other factions tributes to waste your money if you really don't want it. Ask for something simple - like map information, then offer to give 2000 tribute for 15 turns or something. As long as you're not being seen to offer a gift, they usually accept. Your profit declines and you're helping another faction at the same time.

I don't have anything else to spend my money on! I build and recruit everywhere possible every turn. I could "give" money away, but I'd rather not help out anyone else because I don't have any allies. I've been attempting to expand, but it's still not working because I gain another city and lose soldiers, which makes me get even more money.

I don't know, I just read that a lot of people find having money to be really hard in RTW, but I've yet to experience this in any of my campaigns.

Gift money to another faction. One that is poor (see graphs) and fighting a common enemy.

    Well Galagros,

I've currently got 22 regions as Scipii, Taken all of Spain, all of Africa, and fighting on 3 fronts Brits, Egypt and Pontus.

I am currently on -2000 per turn meaning I am in ever spiraling deficit, and only a hurried expantion to exterminate another city gives me any money to retrain/recruit/build.
after being last turn in -8000, I forced Carthage into rebellion, and retook the city giving me 18000 denari and finally some spending money... for 1 turn at least

to ues the fire arrows of course.their purpose is to attack the animal arms, such as elephant. It will cause anxiety and confusion.the historical roman arms had told us its use.

Use it, if you have to fight elephants, they drop their morale. It works too with other troops, but they fire very slow.

Fire arrows are definately most effective against Elephants. I also use them to encourage the enemy to flee. Firing flamming arrows at enemy troops wont really affect them all that much, however fire at the enemy when its engaged and tired and they`ll start to panic. Fire arrows have helped me tip the scales in an even slugfest in many a Multiplayer battle.
