Battle of Tharsas (winter of 272)- When the armies of Romani began to prepare the siege of the city, they were suprised to to find that the spy sent ahead had opened the gates of the city. The armie moved into formation, with the weakest unit up front to soften the initial enemy impact. The missile toops began by lobbing javelins at the enemy while the infantry moved forward. After an initial setback, the hasitia gained a foot hold in the city. The hasatia (with cavalry support) continued towards the plaza while the princeps and triarii held back so they would be frsh in case of an emergency. All was going well until the last defenders, mostly phalanxes, came forward. An ingenius cavalry flanking manuver caught the phalanxes between hasatia and equite cavaly. The battle was soon won, with Romani having 888 of their original 1187 troops while the Epeiros had only 12 of their 1028 troops left alive. The city was won,a nd was eventually fully assimilated into the Romani nation.
