    Default Movie battle reenactments

    Naked Fanatics and Screeching Women,

Hello. I am curious as to whether anyone else has ever attempted to reenact a scene from a movie on a TW game as a custom battle.

I have attempted to reenact the Roman/Germanic battle scene from the beginning of Gladiator. With unit sizes set to huge, you can fit in enough cavalry, infantry, archers, and ballistae on the Roman side to create a pretty decent reproduction. For Germania, I decided not to use any spear warbands as I saw none in the movie, and instead used axemen, peasants, and other infantry types. I have tried playing this from both sides, and as Rome, I won fairly easily. As Germania, it was much more difficult. Germanic peasants simply cannot stand against Roman infantry. My axemen fought hard, though, and I at the end I had around 150 soldiers left while Rome had left the field with close to 200.

A buddy of mine also tried to reenact a battle scene from Troy. I didn't really hear much about it, though.

Anyways, feel free to write. I would love to hear about your personal attempts. Until then,

    HOLD THE LINE,
    Aaron

yeah, the battle at the end of King Arthur (2004).

Mounted nobles, celtic warriors, archers and a few catapults vs. loads of shieldwall stuff and a smattering of huscarles...and what you get, right, is...

dead Celts, dead knights, and that lovely warm feeling of knowing that Hollywood got it all wrong again and that merely making a speech about freedom does not allow you to overcome horrific odds.

In all seriousness, it was close. But 'Arthur's' head still wound up on a spike. I don't do too many of these 'recreation' battles though, the AI inevitably refuses to co-operate. If I tried the 'Gladiator' battle the Germans would probably all run off on a flank march or turn around and attack the cavalry whilst ignoring the 6,000 approaching Romans and their siege lines...as for my attempt to recreate Cannae...

dead, dead, dead Carthaginians. oh yes.

Haven't really tried anything myself like this in R:TW, but in M:TW I would often set up English vs. French battles mod similar to Crecy and Agincourt (i.e. pitting a small force of mainly-infantry English w/ a few units of Longbowmen against a larger mainly-cavalry French force). The battles generally ended in my favor, although there were some surprising outcomes.

Usually, though, I tend to gravitate towards the other end of the scale--I like to fight battles, then imagine my own backstory to them.
Desperately trying to make sense of this forum's smiley system...

I don't think that he would have much success with that, as none of the armies in Troy would be using phalanx units.(Too Early)

I tried reenacting the end battle in Spartacus, as SPQR versus Julii Gladiators (forget the name........Sammnite?) and some peasent units. Won as both sides, although Spartacus' army was a tricky one to win with......and, technically, he died. (his whole unit got cut down by legionaires )
