    I just saw a sign that shows how well the Brazilian community is getting the hang of things in Ireland .
    Since the meat factory burnt down they have had to diversify into all sorts of work .
    The sign ....
    3 hard working brazilian men seeking work
    good workers, reliable .
    anything considered , phone*** ********
    thank you .

    The poor devils. They hav'n't even got a lavatory.

    I don't get it.
    Thats 'cos you ain't integrated into Irish life .

    They will do any of the crap jobs no one likes , picking stones after ploughing , sorting spuds , insulating with fibreglass , but they won't work the Bog , because no-one in their right mind likes doing that job .
    They must have been caught out by someone and got suckered into it previously .

    Though you could be spot on

    A horrible , back breaking , dirty job , with the added bonus that you provide a meal for thousands of blood sucking insects .

    As Duke found out , relatives coming over for a taste of the auld sod can be really gullible and easily exploited
    Or you send the kids when they are old enough but before they get the sense to not do it .
    The recent immigrants were a good labour source , but they are getting wise to it now , as the sign showed .

    But believe it or not there are some strange people who actually like the work , there are even some real masochists who like it so much they still cut by hand , turning a hard dirty job into a really hard , really dirty , long job .

    Personally I havn't touched my stand for the last 3 years , but as I will have some of my nieces and nephews over next summer I might send up them for the hell of it .

    Over the past three decades peat (or turf) production in Ireland has been transformed from a rudimentary hand-won operation to a highly mechanized and commercially profitable national industry. Through a pragmatic admixture of government policy-making and technological advancement 130,000 acres of bogland have been converted into a major fuel production complex. Peat has captured a large share of the domestic solid fuel market, both rural and urban, and accounts for one-quarter of the nation's electricity output. Owing to recent international energy shortages and inflated fuel import costs, the economic viability of peat fuel has been greatly enhanced. As a consequence, a major expansion program has been initiated. Nascent recognition of the new "peat economics" has stimulated interest in other countries and prompted serious re-examination of long-neglected boglands. Apart from providing a valuable source of indigenous energy, the industry has made appreciable social and economic contributions, particularly in terms of buttressing balance of payments and generating employment in rural districts.
    But not for Brazilians working in Ireland, apparently. Just the unwary, the unwitting, and the un-emancipated, if our Tribey has it right.

    25% of electric output... way more than what we're trying with wind & solar here.

    As someone who lives very close to the major peat moors in England, I hope that Blair doesn't get to hear of this.

    On the other hand it could be a way of using our young offenders to find gainful employment.
