Thread: Fiddling with RTW

    Default Fiddling with RTW

Been thinking about picking up the Eras pack to try out RTW as a precursor to MTW 2. However, the impression I get is that Rome is just a bit too involved and fiddly with lots of time consuming micromanagement needed. MTW seems to have a reasonable balance but when you have hordes of ships, armies and provinces you can reach a stage where you feel like you're running a global franchise rather than leading hordes of glorious warriors!

I recommend picking up the eras pack...........Rome is a great game and if you don't want to micromanage evey little thing there is an option to turn on "manage all settlements" in the game. This will handle building, recruitment, and taxes, although it is not quite as effective as managing the settlements yourselves.

Plus, if all you want to do is lead hordes of glorious warriors, there is custom battle and i think 8 historical battles for you to do. And in BI you can play Horde factions like the Huns which don't have to settle into a city if you don't want them to.

    Hi Ledge,

Well Caesar has summed it up fantastically.
All these games can be tweaked to fit the personality playing it, one of the great things about the TW series.
If a full campaign doesn't suit you then you can play the short campaigns, where, by the time it all starts to go horribly wrong you should be near completing the set goals.

Those that love the battles put the cities on auto-manage, and those that like the micro-management of an empire auto-resolve the battles.
Personally, I like both so I micro-manage and fight my own battles.

Dip in a toe, and I promise that before you know it you've put the rest of the world on the back-burner whilst you fight just this last fight.....

All right ... all right ... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order ... what HAVE the Romans ever done for US?
