Default Is it better to be the right hand of the devil than in his path?

I watched the Mummy the other day and enjoyed the discussion this comment from Beni, the little imp, created.
It is better to be the right hand of the devil than in his path.
    So, what do you think?

And don’t lie to yourself, opposing the devil would not be an easy thing.

I am fairly sure I would kick the devil/evil forces all over the place.

What are you talking about ... I would be the devil they're talking about.

Or at least, I would be after I stabbed the real devil in the back and took his place.

Hm... from a theological viewpoint, I'd rather be in the way. Essentially, the Devil can't win, and being his right hand would put you on his side.

Yeah, it's a one horse race and its not a bet you want to lose, is it.

This is what always confused me about Satanists.

If the devil existed that would give me a cause.

I'd oppose the devil, but frankly, I think I'd do so as diplomatically as I could, cause frankly, the scares me excrementless. I think as a good Christian, I'm called to oppose him with all my will and tell him what I really think of him, but frankly, i'm not sure I'm up to that kind of pain and suffering. Not to mention... porn is so damned hard to resist... It's a pity we can't just take the best of each party platform...

I'm a rational man. I make my living by employing rules of science, as they apply to electrons and the potential energies they carry across bandgaps in silicon. I'm no babbling peasant, and I believe the devil is much more real than any of us think. And I think he's quite happy that most of us choose to believe he's a myth.

It is difficult to say, I don't think of the devil as a who, but more of a what.

And if you look at it that way, I actively oppose the Devil every single day of my life.

The thing is, God allows the devil and hell to exist, at least that's what they want you to believe, so he can't be pure evil in the way he's usually portraited, or alternatively, God really ain't all that good.

As for joining or opposing, I'm undecided, depends on what he's offering

Well if you consider hell to be a complete and total absence of God, I'm pretty sure we're all already in hell.

i would be in his path, simply because satan is weak, in the bible it says he can't act unless god wills it, he lost the war for heaven he has'nt been succesful as far as we know in attempting to destroy the world and he can't hurt people directly.

quite frankly i would be more afraid of his followers. tho if given the chance to do all the havoc and destruction and murder of wicked at the apocolypse i would be on his side cause that would just be fun.

Where I am at, and how I have been raised, I would tell him to eat shit. I'm on God's side and I would be saved by the big man upstairs.

The Devil's greatest accomplishment was convincing the world he didn't exist.

There is no Devil. Only the other Gods, struggling against our God; and the forces of decay and anti-freedom.

    Does that answer your question?

The Devil does exist. He is the embodiement of pure evil with whom God has been battling throughout the ages and they will continue fighting each other until Armageddon.

Of course, another great trick of the devil was the second world war. Firstly you get one of the most evil people ever born climbing to the top, and while he is defeated, it's still a victory for the devil. I can think of many people who's reason for not believing in God is that "How could God have let the second world war happen".

I 've wondered about this before, why would you want to be a satanist ?
What reward lies before you ?
Do you get a heavenlike treatment in hell ?

Satanists don't believe in hell, I have read some of their views, it's not that bad, it is just individualism till the extreme. Basicly, anything that serves you and you alone is fair game, de Sade comes pretty close.

From what I've been made to understand, when Hell comes to Earth and Satan wins, they get some pretty nifty rewards for their service. And if they happen to die before that event, then they get better treatment in hell, so that it is really less of the fire and brimstone eternal troment type of hell and for them it is more of a demon position and all the decadent pleasures associated with it.

Or, at least, that's what I was lead to understand.

I thought hell was self made by rejecting God.

On a more general level or atheist one. Ones life can be made hell by rejecting principles that steers one from harm of self and others. Principles are like light houses, there to warn us away from damage... but some of us see a sign saying wet paint and just have to touch it to make sure... thank God for scientists.

Devil worshippers do their thing for the same reasons the rest of the Judeo-Christians do.

Henry- I was positing my belief. I was not arguing that the belief in the devil was wrong; he is just completely incompatible with my own religious system.
