Default Wanna Help EB? Find us an Ossetian Speaker

We lost the guy who was helping us earlier and we desperately need someone to give us some help with names. We aren't even talking about lots of history or research or anything. We just want some building names translated and some units too (but not all, since we have some).

We just need names of things like "trader", "trade port", "nomadism", etc. Any chance someone out there could help us out here?

I can't emphasize how big a benefit it would be to us to get in touch with someone who is an Ossetic spearker or even just if they have good access to an Ossetic dictionary if we can't do any better. There's a little one online but it's nowhere near as detailed as we need. Ossetic/Ossetian speakers are generally from the area along the border of Russia and Georgia, with some from Turkey as well.

Anybody have any possible contact or able to help in any way here?

Sadly, I live in LATAM and don`t know any ossetian, russian, georgian or turk...

But how about making this requirement in TWC also? Perhaps you could find someone amongst the armenians that post there, I believe Ticmizes is armenian, he may know something...

BTW, about the previous post, I know that the armenians don`t speak ossetic, but they may know something (or someone) that is about ossetic language, since they are from the caucasus zone... just a thought...

I`ve been looking around for ossetian stuff, and sadly there isn`t much on the net. What I`ve found is this:

    http://titus.uni-frankfurt.de/indexs...xte/texte2.htm

That page has got a recopilation of text written in ancient languages, amongst them ossetic language...

They have the nartic tales written in that language, however, I`ve been unable to find a translation for them, let alone a dictionary. Hope it`s useful in any way though.

    Sorry.

    Will keep looking.

    Bye!

I got word from an Ossetic speaker that there are a couple of forums online where I might find someone who could help, but the interfaces are in Russian:

"There are some active groups online, but the interface is in Russian
    (as at iriston.ru/forum or ossetia.ru/smf)."

If we have any fans who are Russian or who know Russian, we might be able to get some results by going through someone like that. Any interest in helping out?

    I

In this forum, this is the place where they discuss specifically about ossetic language, culture preservation, etc.

    http://www.ossetia.ru/smf/index.php?...3102&board=9.0

    Here`s a russian-english translator:

    http://translation2.paralink.com/

Tell me what should I ask of them in order to make the petitions...

Let`s see now, how the crap can I register, sh**, it`s all in russian!!!

    **************

EDIT: Ok, I`ve registered, but I can`t create a new thread... guess I`ll just have to petition into a thread about an ossetic dictionary or something...

    ****************

EDIT: Okey, I`ve found a page that has an ossetic dictionary. It`s this one. Now we should only figure out how the hell it works.

Okey, ready, the dictionary I`ve found is a russian-ossetic translator. It may do.

    What should one`s do:

1º Translate the words of choice into russian with this translator: http://translation2.paralink.com/

2º Then, in this page, copy paste the russian translation into the empty box in the center of the screen: http://slovar.iriston.com/

    3º Press search

4º the navigator will go into a page with the ossetic translation of the russian word.

    For instance:

Academy (english, gah!) -> академия (russian) -> академи (ossetic)

Academy of sciences ? "zonadty (naukzhty) akademi"

Academy of arts ? "aivadty akademi"

There you go. It`s not much, but I sincerily hope that helps.

PS: Caution, always double chech the words translated in the russian-english dictionary, because for instance I tried to translate archer into russian, and the translator translated "strelets". So, always double check.

there's always a risk in using online translators to translate one language into another via a third language. Just try english to spanish to french in babelfish to get my point, and don't die laughing. ^_^

Wish i could help about the Ossetic speakers, but...oh well.

Im from Turkey, and Ossetic is a mystery to me, although i can speak Turkish fluently. I might be able to pronounce some of the Latin(alphabet) words, but definetly cant read Cyrillic.

I know you're getting some leads with that Russian forum and such, but maybe some of the Armenian members on this forum could help??

Aswell, if you do happen to find Latin translations, I will gladly record them for you!

We do have a member who can handle the russian, and he has some leads, but we don't have a good handle on anything serious yet. We still really could use the help if anyone knows somebody who might be able to help us.

Im Armenian. Sorry guys I dont know an Ossetic speaker. The Caucaus seem small on the map, but its boundries are heavly ethnicaly bounded. Ive never seen an Ossetian, or Georgian in my life. (only on TV)
