sounds ace.
look forward to the audio CD
Ok i will get the game in 5 or 10 November.
by the sound of the press releases around, you can't but "the limited edition" per se, it's more like a first come first served basis. i.e. the first x thousand sold will be limited edition then the normal run will continue after that.
So all of us guys with pre-orders should be pretty much guaranteed a limited edition![]()

Yeah hmm, I wonder if the normal game will have a game map... I actually liked the Rome map, although it's not very good quality (just a piece of paper), so I don't know if I'd pay extra for it.
The audio CD might be worth it, the Era's CD is in my CD player and hasn't left it for a while.
Still, 'only' an audio CD and a (probably paper) map over the normal game... I am a poor student so I'll probably go for the normal version.

Generally, limited editions of games are priced about $10 higher to pay for the additional material and special packaging. For example the recent WW II RTS from Relic---Company of Heroes-- came in a regular and a limited edition. The limited edition came in a special metal box with additional content and was $60 rather than the normal $50 for the standard edition.Originally Posted by Maximus Meridius

I would not get my hopes up about it having anything to do with pre-ordering unless you are given the choice of the regular or the limited edition at the time you pre-order. I would assume that if you pre-ordered you might have the opportunity to upgrade your pre-order to the Limited edition.
I never pre-order simply because I have never had any trouble finding copy of of just about game I wanted on the day it came out, and also as a matter of principle I see no reason to loan my money to a game seller interest free.
However, I might break my rule if pre-ordering was the only way to get a limited edition if I decide I want one.
Cheers

This is actually a good idea by sega to get people to preorder without trying to bilk them out of 10$ for a cheap map and cd of music that comes with the game anyways.
not bad. I'm getting the Collectiors Edition (which is $100) though..More Stuff, the better ;-).
So you can't just take the music directly off your hard drive once you install it? What the hell?
Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

OOoooooooooooooooooooooooh.
Right.... for all you UK peoples:
Game have the UK exclusive on the collectors edition of M2TW! It's available for pre-order (delivery 10th November) for £39.99 PLUS P&P (the scumbags) making it £44.94 if you want next day delivery. not sure what to do here cause I wouldn't trust them to get it to me on the Friday (cause i've never ordered from them before and don't know their policies) and Play.com have always turned up on the release date on my doorstep. Oh, and the standard Edition is only £35 from Play.
I might phone my local Game store and see if I can pre-order the collectors edition for collection (punn not intentional) at the store instead.
I'm all confused now
-edit-
The Medieval II Collector's Edition will contain:
Game on DVDRom
Exclusive Medieval II: Total War Figurine in its own packaging
4 x exclusive Medieval II: Total War high quality artcards
Exclusive "Making Of" documentary
Medieval II: Total War Soundtrack CD
Exclusive Medieval II: Total War Game Map
Collector's Edition game manual with exclusive cover
A special Collector's Edition "Building Planner" poster
Exclusive game packaging
The normal Limited Edition pre-orders will just have the DVD and map. I'm not bothered about soundtracks, art cards or packaging so I guess I need to ask myself if I wanna spend an extra twenny quid on a "Making Of" documentary and a special Collector's Edition "Building Planner" poster (whatever that is).

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Is there more than one type of figurine? If so, I want to collect them all.

As for myself, collectors editions are nice and all, but I'm strongly disinclined to fork over an extra $40-$50 for them. An extra $5-$10 maybe, but it depends on exactly what kind of extra content is included. With Medieval 2, the only extra that would really interest me is the stand-alone soundtrack. I've often wished the previous TW titles had included a separate disc with the various musical pieces, so this is nice to see.
I don't consider maps an "extra". They should be included with all copies of the game regardless.

I have pre-ordered M2TW at EB Games in Launceston & the limited edition is the same price as the standard game $99.95 Aus dollars so I said I'll have the Limited Edition, thank you & pais for the game in full.
I'd love to know what the "special Collector's Edition "Building Planner" poster" is but I guess there'll be one available as a pdf file before long anyh00.
I've decided that I'm not gonna get the collector's edition cause it just doesn't justify the massive price hike. £25 - £45 ? No thanks, that's an 80% mark-up for a music CD and wall chart.

$100 Australian? That's not good news, Rome was $90 AUS when it came out. I will really have to decide whether it's worth forking out that much money just to get it when it first comes out.Originally Posted by tiny_titan

Of course it is! That's, what, £40? that sound like full retail price so there must be online shops who are cheaper, but even still.... you gotta get it cause it's a Total War game and they rock![]()

I've pre-ordered the collectors edition for $89 NZ... $ 94 delivered... from Gamesman.
Thats reasonable. Games generally sell for around $100NZ off the shelf, with an extra $10 - $20 for collector's editions. Gamesman shops seem to offer them for $ 5 - $10 cheaper than their counterparts.
This is the first time I've bothered to pre-order... I hope Gamesman deliver promptly.
Bring Back Buck
that's not exactly true. The map in the special edition is a more beautiful and detailed but correct me if im wrong, later buyers will also receive a map but not as nice :P.Originally Posted by maestro

You'll get the Limited Edition for pre-ordering, which includes a map. The Collector's Edition is extra money and not available everywhere.

Here is some late breaking news. The have now announced the:
Special 1 of 1,000, collectors one time only limited gold embossed hermetically sealed extra fancy edition.
I hear it includes:
1. A music CD of Billboard's top 20 hits of the dark ages.
2. Detailed instruction on exactly where to find the Holy Grail
3. Plans for a large wooden Trojan Rabbit.
4. A tee shirt that says "I survived the Black Plague and all I got was this lousy Teeshirt plus some really nasty pock marks!"
5. A coupon for a dollar off on a dozen White Castle hamburgers
6. An "entertaining with gruel" recipe book
7. A full color map of Boise, Idaho
8. A top ten list of fun things to do in Agincourt, France if you have dysentery.
9. A small container of dried toads
10. A gold plated replica of a Medieval turd polished to a high luster.
Lastly, for an extra $40 they will actually include a copy of the game.
This it the one I am getting for sure!![]()
