There's a good bit of time between handing off the final build of the code/ressources and the actual release of the game. That time could be used to make a new demo without detracting from the time spent on the main game. They can't keep coding right up to the day before release, you know.

For those doubting the variations in the demo: (56kers beware, these are about 600kb each)
English Longbows seem to show it the most of the Agincourt units

A fair bit on the Billmen

I dunno, maybe people are expecting like 50 different leg skins or something.
The CA "no more clones" blog post said something like:
5/7 faces/heads
3 arms
3 torsos
3 legs
10 shields
I make that nearly 2000 different possible combos
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

I did my order on sendit.com. So, where is my ticket?

Besides, if they are gonna release a new demo that they put a custom battle into the game. Historic battles are full of scripts and they don't give any clear image to us.

I hope

Apparently under some battle conditions, Athlon XP's are giving a different result than Pentium's. For instance, a man might die on your machine but not on the other machines in the battle because an arrow had a slightly different trajectory, so you will go out of sync and be dropped from the battle. If the game doesn't drop you then you can play on, but you will not be seeing the same battle as everyone else in the game and it will progressively diverge until it's nothing remotely like what the other players are seeing. This isn't an issue for SP because there is only one machine involved.
Fascinating (although I realize it sucks for Athlon users).

Only AthlonXP, Athlon64, etc. will work fine.
AthlonXP is now renamed Sempron in their confusing AMD nomenclature.

Wrong planet.

The Sempron is a cut-down, budget version of the Athlon 64 and is a completely different core and architecture to the Athlon XP. The XP is a socket A 32bit processor and the sempron i a socket 754 or socket AM2 64bit processor.

Please ignore the above post as incorrect cause the Athlon XP hasn't been renamed Sempron at all. In fact, until the XP was discontinued, both CPUs were available concurrently.

There are still issues with the Athlon XP in multiplayer, but not any of the AMD 64bit CPUs (Athlno 64, Sempron, Opteron, X2 and FX). Which is a shame because the Athlon XP is still the most widely owned CPU in the gaming market
Isn't it funny how people trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell?

Hopefully an Athlon 64 is enough for MP!!! My prediction: We will need cpus from the next millennium for playing 3vs3 or 4vs4 comparable with MTW vi. Otherwise they had given a 3vs3 demo to us and not such a äähh such a demo like we got.

In 3 weeks we will see it. The dev blogs make some hope.

Well, if they were smart they would start work immediately on the patch; I suspect there are a number of features and bugs which did not make the final cut but could be worked on for the first patch.

Also they probably need a bit of a rest.

Sempron

There are actually 5 different core generations of 2 primary types on 3 different sockets.

The Socket A Semprons are AthlonXP renamed & thus don't have SSE2.

The Socket 754 Sempron is a renamed Athlon64 which means they have got SSE2. (later models have SSE3 too)

There are now also Sempron for Socket AM2, again Athlon64 renamed so have SSE2

Dam man, are they reverting their interface back to MTW style for this demo and the finished product?

You can use the regular UI that is very similar to the one introduced in RTW, or the minimal UI seen in the screenshots.

As an aside, did the UI in MTW have the same "hide" options as on the M2TW demo?
I don't have a copy of it anymore to check, but if it didn't, then it's a feature I'm certainly pleased to see!

I've had that mail too :

Pre-order frenzy is gripping the Total War community. In partnership with Amazon.co.uk we are now able to offer a juicy bonus for those who have pre-ordered via the site - AN ENHANCED MEDIEVAL II DEMO!

On October 24th at 9 am UK time anyone who has pre-ordered Medieval II via Amazon.co.uk will receive an email detailing access to the new demo, which features the awe inspiring Battle of Otumba! For the first time witness the clash of two great civilisations as the Spanish clash with the exotic Aztec Empire!

It's not too late to pre-order so to gain exclusive early access to this demo, make your way over to Amazon.co.uk now!

EARLY ACCES...so this means people who didn't preorder will get it too, right?

Well after the last demo I do not think any of the campanies involved are nieve enough to think this demo will not rapidly spread over the internet...

While the majority of us resist the temptations of priracy, spreading a demo around which is really just a piece of advertising is hardly morally reprehensable...
