    Question Magic army glitch?

I decided to dust off Shogun for the first time in a few years. Playing as the Uesugi (starting in 1550), I was able to successfully kill off the head of the Hojo, followed shortly by his only heir. They still had several provinces under their control when I wiped the faction out and I got the note popping up talking about how the Hojo clan had been wiped out, and how the rest of their forces had scattered into rebel groups. However, when I clicked on the campaign map, I saw something odd. The ex-Hojo provinces were now all under the control of the Shimazu clan. The Shimazu had been nowhere near that part of the map, and there were no units to bribe all those rebel armies.

Any idea what happened? I can only assume it is a glitch, but I can’t find any mention of it. It’s a bit of a pain as I thought I would be taking out several provinces of disorganized rebels, but instead I have to take on another faction. And if that wasn’t annoying enough, the Hojo armies I had been wearing down, have been replaced by new and larger armies, as though by magic.

    Any thoughts?

The Shimazu were allied to the Hojo and got their lands or part of them when the Hojo were eliminated.

I didn’t realize that was possible. I thought that only happened in MTW with the marriages deal. It’s good to know it’s not a glitch though, as frustrating as it may be. Ah well, I guess I’ll have to kick Shimazu butt too.

    Cheers for the reply.

Look at it this way Shamus, it is better fighting against a clan for territory than it is a bunch of rebels. At least that is how I see it.

Had an interesting campaign due to this one. Being the Shimazu I was having the left part of Japan (about 1/3). I don't remember exactly, but by some reason I decided to assassinate the Oda clan who were my neighbours to the east (probably no hiers or something).
To my happiness it succeeded and to my horror, the Oda clan territories joined the Takeda clan.
As this combined clan was very strong I decided to continue my path of assassinations and did take out the Takeda as well. And with a brilliant stroke of unluck, Takeda was allied to Hojo, so about 2/3 of the map was suddenly Hojo territory.
Considering how powerful Hojo can be with only one third of the map this was very, very bad news... Time to sharpen those assassin blades again, before the purple flood will sweep accross Japan.
With some help of reloads (as only my super-assassin could operate without getting caught. Yeah I know that it's cheating ) the flood was stopped and all that remained was to clean up the rebels.

But that campaign really had that "if you strike me down, I will return stronger than ever" feeling over it.

Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

You should have allied to Hojo and then assassinated him :)

I never actually managed to do that.

Wow, Ironside. Talk about having your assassination strategy backfire on you.... Unless I'm truly desperate to eliminate a rival, I try very hard to make sure I'm allied to a clan before killing off its leaders. This way there's a decent chance I get at least some of their lands.

That said, I don't use ninjas very often (and geisha almost never, as they're way overpowered), except as defensive agents to capture enemy assassins. I generally prefer to destroy my enemies the old-fashioned way.

As I mentioned, I don't remember exactly, but it's quite possible that I was allied with Oda when I assassinated them out of existance. Possibly even with Takeda.

I wasn't at war with them atleast. It's possible that Hojo attacked me before I could kill them off, but I didn't use assassins to win a war, but prevent me from ending up in a war that would surely lose.

Oh, I totally understand that in your case that it probably was necessary to use assassins, else you probably could not have won. Your game is a good example of when even I probably would've had no choice but to sick a few ninjas on the other daimyos.

Lol! Sasaki I did manage to use that trick. Unfair, but fun if it acutally works. However iirc I didn't get all the regions of the victim clan, some were given to the rebels.
