    Default Horse archers and "throwing"

I was rooting around the EDU last night (mainly fixing some minor oddities like a fair few wacky terrain bonuses à la Machimoi Hippeis having the "northern barbarian" set with the accompanying desert penalty), and noticed pretty much exact all horse archers have the "throwing" attribute on their bows which the infantry ones don't. Well, the Getai one didn't, but I figure that's an oversight.

Just out of general curiosity, why ? There's obviously a point in it, but I can't figure it out.

I believe that was there to keep them from having some awful horse archer problem that was an RTW issue.

Yep. In R:TW 1.2 horse archers don't fire on the move unless they have the "throwing" attribute (like javelin-armed cavalry).

Yes, and I think it was QWERTY who invented the workaround

...now that would certainly have been a problem all right.

Haha, thanks for the support, I did indeed come up with that one, but in 1.5 it's not an issue anymore. My greatest piece of modding work right out the window

The situation is pretty bad when you're worried what bugs a patch will introduce, rather than being excited over those it may fix.

Hopefully CA have learned something. Mod community has always been faster at finding and fixing this sort of thing. Now, the fans doing most of the "finding" is fine.. since the fans are so many and spend so much time on the game. But once such hair-raising bugs have been found and recognized, CA ought to be much faster at getting a FIX. At least a hotfix..

They certainly ought to do it faster than it takes for modders to find a work-around..

I was really surprised at the bugs the patches introduced. I was glad when my Carthaginians stopped falling off the seige towers when attacking walls, but losing the charge bonus was almost as bad. However, it would be very nice of CA to put out a patch that adjusts diplomacy and incorporates work from M2TW. Will they do it? Probably not because it would be a bad business practice since they are so close to releasing M2TW... still, it would be nice.
