Default No campaign map in Standard Box

I was dissapointed yesterday, when having prized a copy of Medieval 2: Total War from the cold, dead hands of my local dealer, I opened the box to find no campaign map.

I hadn't realised that the Campaign map was a Collectors Edition only comodity, and I was really dissapointed. I had planned on framing the map and plotting possible campaign routes with the aid of a felt tip pen. But more importantly I need the map to work out where the cities are when I haven't explored that area of the map.

I wanted to share this point to warn people that perhaps the collectors edition is worth the extra money, much as I loath giving money to Game - who ignore PC games until a big title like this comes out. Grrr now I'll have to buy it twice!

By the way the game is fabulous, and responsible for me being two hours late for work this morning.

According to the press - and many threads on this Forum, the map is included in the Limited Edition and Collectors Edition, but not the standard retail edition. As was previously announced, the Limited Editions were for pre-orders and you bought yours in a shop.

BTW - what shop did you convince to let you have it early?
Isn't it funny how people trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell?

Maestro thanks for the clarification, I hadn't realised that this wouldn't be limited edition, cos I did pre-order it from this shop. but he's a small independent in West Finchley, London - so probably too small for the limited edition. The shop's name is Radicl.

Typical really, they put the stuff you expect to get into a limited edition box and then want you to pay more for it, whilst at the same time saving money on packaging on the normal version. I don't find the 'extras' really that crucial so am happy to buy the bog-standard edition though and save my penniess for something else.

I also remember the days when you bought budget games or compilations and you still got all the original manuals, and not just a useless pdf document. Those days have gone (although to be fair, the price hasn't changed really in the last 10 years).

Beside the missing map, there also isn't a techtree leaflet, like in the previous games. That's CE now as well sadly.

Yep, game packaging has really gone downhill. I remember buying Dawn Patrol (does anyone remember this?) when I was much younger, and the box actually contained a biography of Richthofen! I was blown away. There's nothing like that nowadays.

For you Europeans who have got it early on preorders and have been dismayed in not getting a "Limited Edition", it's because the "Limited Edition" is only for the US. The Collector's Edition is the substitute for the Limited Edition in all other locations, however, it comes at extra cost.

Here's a link to the explanation.

No map? Darn, i loved looking at at planning where to postion armies and where key choke points were. Ever since they joined with SEGA the packaging went downhill. Hell Barbarian Invasion didn't have a case.
