Yes but i have pre-ordered from gameplanet in australia but the delivery is in europe so i am being charged the gst or not?
I don't know, but my guess is probably not. GST type taxes usually only apply to in-country orders, not international ones, in order to encourage exports. I do know, for example, that when I order something from Britain to ship here, I don't have to pay their rotten VAT (thank goodness).Originally Posted by Basilios II Voulgaroktonos
As a rule of thumb, sales tax of any kind doesn't apply when you eport something, but it's not as simple as all that. Firstly, you need to find a company that has the facilities to export and deduct tax from the amount you pay and then, by law, you're supposed to declare your purchase to the inland revenue (or whoever) and pay your local sales tax (in my case, VAT) when you receive the goods.
Sucks, doesn't it. Although I do think that there's a lower limit, below which you are tax exempt on personal imports![]()
Isn't it funny how people trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell?
Looks like my bribery worked
I am delighted to hear that the release date for England will more than likely be November 10th, its nice to know that we are getting it quite early indeed![]()
RIP TosaInu
Ja Mata
Being based in the US at the moment I for one will be aviod M2TW forums from the 10th until I get the game in my hands (well maybe a quick check to be sure the forum is not full of "OMG it suxs" threads). Add to that I will have planning to get Gears or War and CoD3 for the 360 and Neverwinter 2 for the PC so will not be short of things to too...Originally Posted by NagatsukaShumi

I think i have spoiled any surprizes in the game enough already without reading every possible detail...
Of course the fact that ordered the Strategy Guide may lead to a lot of spoiling on the 7th anyway...![]()

Again I have to ask why the **** **** ********** ****** ***** * ******** ******* **** **** ***** ****** is the country where the game has been developed not getting it until six days after it is released elsewhere? Is there some UN convention to this effect?
Yes, there is a limit. I know because I buy a fair bit of stuff from O/S and I've spoken to customs about what duties are payable. I thought it better to pay duties on the goods rather than have them confiscated altogether as "grey" imports.Originally Posted by maestro
As it turns out I needn't have worried as, according to the customs person I spoke to, one doesn't have to pay duty in Australia on items ordered from overseas so long as those items don't exceed a value of $1000.
AKA government sponsored theft, getting suckers to pay more, games and software tax and generally stupid tax..Originally Posted by screwtype
Yeah we pay more for games in Australia than ppl do in the US (after converting currency). There's a fair bit of taxes associated with software here (in addition to the across-the-board GST), which is quite annoying.
Yes but good news is you get a glass stein :P
So for this preorder i am envious lol.
Man this is like the longest 20 days ever :P
It would be heavenly over here to only have to pay a 10% sales tax, you shouldn't complain too much because we have to pay a ridiculous 17.5% on everything.Originally Posted by ProudNerd

Yeah, but as someone else has pointed out, in Australia the GST is not necessarily the only sales tax you pay on an item. Apparently they retained a lot of the former sales taxes when they brought the GST in. In fact now you hear people complain because they find themselves paying "a tax on a tax" for some items.Originally Posted by D Wilson
Yea, where I live at (Pittsburgh PA), we got 7% Sales Tax. But I don't know what it is when you buy something from here from over in England or something..
you guys are in soft ground because i have ordered from Australia and the delivery is in Europe so i was HAMMERED in the tax...

Well in Portugal its 21%. I should be the one thats complaining lololOriginally Posted by D Wilson
Ah well, the US doesn't have a proper health care system. ANd the health insurance is pretty much unaffordable. I rather pay some more VAT's.
Anyway.
11 days to go.
Right?
It may not be the highest at 17.5% here in the UK but overall we pay over 40% taxes and that's the highest anywhere in Europe at least. By some schools of thought when a country gets over 40% tax a revolution of some sort will occur, not necessarily a radical one, but things need to change. One major question is that if we have the highest tax rate in europe yet our public services are still sub par, then where is all the money going?
