Thread: Slower Battles

    Default Slower Battles

I am an old time RTW player but dropped out about a year ago. I just bought Barbarian Invasion. Wow, it looks absolutely beautiful with my new video card.

I need to get the mod to slow down the battles. Kill rates are way too fast. I can't remember or find the mod. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also what are the basic mods needed to produce realistic battles beyond the slow down of kill rates?

Unfortunately I can't download the Barbarian Invasion patch at 68 Megs since I am working in a hotel for the next month. The connection is an incredibly slow 24kb. Without the patch, am I wasting my time?

All the big mods that I have played use some way to slow down the battles, and they all use similar methods, but it is propably DarthMod the more focused on realistic battles.
As you can't download big files, I suggest you this old DM version: http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=797.
This is the mod I used the first time I played BI, and it is smaller than 1Mb.

I haven't seen any mini-mod that only changes the battle speed (since old RTW1.2 slowdown-mods). But, if you don't care making some modding yourself, all you need to change is:

    -in data/export_descr_unit.txt:
Reduce killrate for all units (last value of stat_pri and stat_sec): 0.75 or so is OK.
Increase moral for all units (first value of stat_mental): +5 to all works great.

    -in data/descr_battle_map_movement_modifiers.txt:
Reduce all values to something between 0.5 and 0.8. (you can copy this file from any mod).

Thanks Bardo! I will just go in and mod the files to your numbers myself.

Actually I had RTW heavily modded. I wanted to load BI over my old existing RTW but the installshield forced me to do a totally new install of both RTW and MI. And I couldn't remember what files I modified.

I am wondering if not being able to download the latest BI patch is going to hurt gameplay significantly. I think I am going to buy one of those flash memory things and go to a Kinkos and try to download it there. Although the patch is huge.
