Thread: Recommendations...?

    Default Recommendations...?

Hiya. I've been playing RTW on and off for quilte a while now, and I can say I'm sick of the vanilla campaign. I've been looking through the mods, looking for someone that covers the same ground but with different map/units/factions, but have found there are so many of them. Could those of you who have played them give me your impressions of the following mods:

    Rome Total Realism (RTR)
    Europa Barbarorum
    SPQR
    Rome Total Gameplay

And any other which cover the same timeframe as the vanilla version that I''ve forgotten to mention.

The thing is, I don't want to have to keep freshly installing the game until I find the mod that is right for me, so I'd like to know what I'm doing before I screw with the game.

with JSGME you can install multiple mods without having aloads of installs

    about your 4 choices:
i played RTR and SPQR for hours upon hours and they were extremely fun... but when i downloaded EB i was amazed at how fun it is however it would be better to wait for their latest version (0.8) to be released... and RTG is more based on the original vanilla, unlike the huge changes that goes into the other mods, it tries to keep the feel that origional rome had

    hope that could help

terrae Expugnadae, by far the best Rome era mod out there - untill EB 0.8 comes out.

I haven't played SPQR or RTG, but I can highly recommend RTR Platinum Edition. It's basically RTW with more historical units and slower paced battles. You can get a good taste of it from the Will of the Senate PBM in the Throne Room. Check out the battle reports:

    and the Consuls' reports:

EB is very similar, IMO, but departs more from vanilla RTW in the depth of its history and some game design decisions. Personally, I would wait for EB 0.8 before starting a campaign though - it is for RTW 1.5 (so you can mod down rebel spawn - yay!) and will avoid an annoying CTD bug.
