Unhappy A Problem In Form And Function

Gah! I'm sorry to disrupt the tranquility of the boards, and I apologize in advance if there's a 'tech support' board I didn't spot on the way in, but I'm desperate!

You see, I love Medieval: Total War. I don't yet own the expansion pack, but that's beside the point. I don't play it more than a few times a month - for fear of becoming even more addicted - but that's also beside the point. The point? Oh, yes.

The game no longer works. I tried to start a new campaign as the French in the early period, and my game crashed. I've tried to start other new campaigns, an d the same thing has happened. After pressing the "Start Campaign" button, the moment it finishes loading - just as I hear the whistling of the wind that precedes the music of the campaign - the game drops to black and crashes with no error message whatsoever.

Now, I believed initially that it was due to my own modifications - a bit of unit-number fiddling, in essence, nothing more - that had caused this. I switched to a backup file, and yet the problem persisted. I tried to uninstall, and then realized I had a serious problem:

I couldn't. My uninst.isu file is apparently corrupt. Not panicking, I went ahead and tried a reinstall without uninstalling. It finished about ten minutes ago, having moved much slower than it did in the past. I already know I do not have a virus, or any other such thing on my computer. I'm relatively sure, at least.

Having exhausted my knowledge of what to do in the situation, I am left with one option: You, members of The Org, visitors and admninistrators of The Guild. The only other info I can provide off the top of my head is that the game worked just fine last time I played it, a week or so ago, and I had just figured out how to make Crusader units - the Knights Templar, in this case - available to be built by the French.

I do not know if I had or have any official updates installed to the game. I would be happy to answer any questions that would be helpful to solving my problem, or any questions, period.

Help me, members of the forum. You're my only hope.

First of all, welcome to the Org Kaoru!

You're definitely not the first person to have either problem (CTD when loading campaigns, and difficulties uninstalling); I myself have dealt with both as well. Because a particularly large number of people have had problems with the CTD when loading campaign, there are now dedicated threads in the Apothecary that deal with this issue.

In regards to your uninstall problem, you could check out this old thread I started from earlier this year. I don't know if your difficulties are the same as mine were; but if they are, it might help you. Good luck!

After the reinstall, did you then try to run a correct uninstall? This is advisable. After uninstalling you should then delete the "Medieval - Total War" folder and all it's contents. Then you should try reinstalling again and see if that fixes it. Ensure the disc is clean, you did say that the install was slower than normal? So it may be that you cdrom drive is having trouble reading the disc?
