The Bohemians, the Portuguese, and the Scots are all challenging while still being fun. (I actually have yet to win with the Bohemians, truth be told; but I still enjoy them!Originally Posted by Taedius

Thanks for the pointers.
I've started several campaigns, mostly with small factions, but the ones i've gotten into and continued so far is the Norwegians and the Teutonic Order.
Fun. :)
okay...ill get back to playing the game this week...you bullies made me miss it...

I've played vanilla MTW for some years; only got VI this spring. And that, my friend, speaks of of its replayability.![]()
I always enjoyed Spanish campaigns. Nice hard beginning, what with the Moors and the Aragonese giving you headaches, and then a good, controlled base of operations. Expansion options in either France or North Africa. It's been a while, so I don't remember a lot about the troop types ...
yeah i kinda miss playin em, thsi on time i launched a 25,000 man(normal unit size) crusade that conquered the almohads, egyptiaans, turks, byzantines, novogorods, and the mongolians. I disbanded the crusade and conquered the papacy , poland, and hungary. Best invasion force Ive ever made.Originally Posted by Lemur

I can. The GH is just annoying in the game (especially since I hate horsearchers).
I'd say either the Irish, Danes, Swedes, Huns, Poles, Scots or English. And that's near half of the factions in the game.
Ultimately I'd say English though, as there is no weapon better than the longbow.
It's not easy being a man, you know. I had to get dressed today... And there are other pressures.

I would have to say England. I like the isolation to build and have a small toe hold in France to get the units some experience.

Only one vote for the Papal States.....must of been me![]()
Not exactly the most fun game playing as them, too weak. Though for fun I edited some files and gave them huge starting armies, by the time the campaign was over, I had taken over about 93% of Europe, why send others on a Crusade when you can do it yourself!![]()
I found playing Spain to be quite...eh...
Very nice selection of cavalry like the Lancers and such, but they just get so played out. Jinettes are nice and the same with Almughavars.
The other Catholic factions I like are either the English or the Italians.
Other than that most Catholic armies are...eh...
But when you play as the Moors or the Byzantines, then we're talkin'!

by far my favorite faction has to be Italy. Good navy and ok troops that get better in the Late period![]()
The Byzantines!!!!!
or the russians,Boyars and kataphaktoi are very good!
I have never played RTW
It would be the Danes for me. Something about that viking blood that draws me in. I also love the axe troops.

For King and Country!!!
Hmpf. Looks like only I and Mithrandir appreciate the greatness of the Almohads
Berber camels, Almohad Urban militia, militia sergeants, Faris, Murabutin javelineers...their only real weakness is their lack of a decent spear unit, but I work around that.
It feels kinda odd to send militiamen abroad to conquer the world, though.
i voted england, because they (geographically) are the closest to the mighty Scottish army

The Foolish Horseman, previously known as GBB
Hey, dont get me wrong, I do like the Almohads. But I like England and Italy better. But I still have to say, Byzantines are my favorites! They are killing in the polls, although England is not far behind.
TosaInu shall never be forgotten.
I discovered their greatness last week. A whole campaign in a single night!Originally Posted by Kralizec

Theyre not really a faction i see much of, most of my campaigns are down the east side of the map.
If this is about the best faction, then it's as follows in my, oh so humble, opinion:
1. The Unstoppable Turks
2. The Magnificent Egyptians
3. The Mighty Almohads
If it's about my favourite faction, then I would say:
1. The Unstoppable Turks
2. The Heroic Spanish
3. The Legendary Byzantines
Other factions worth a mention:
The Honourable Hungarians
The Indefatigable Novgorods
For a very interesting campaign, the Novgorod campaign (early) is very worthwhile. Even writing about it here makes me want to abandon my current campaign as the Turks and plunge into a Novgorod campaign again. The Byzantine high campaign is also very interesting. The best Hungarian, Spanish and Almohad campaigns are the early period ones IMHO. All of the Turks campaigns are interesting and very worthwhile. The Egyptians in high is also interesting, with some French neighbours to deal with. Of all the factions the Hungarians are the most unusual. Though a catholic faction they can train horse archers and their own horse archer unit the Szekely. This makes them an interesting catholic faction.

I'm having a lot of fun playing as the Brits. We're have the whole of Britain, most of France, northern and western Germany and Denmark under our well travelled sandle at turn 187.
