And yes, the border is part of the 50x75, so the viewable part of your image will be 44x69. Very tiny, I know, that's why we also need to see the large version, to admire the creativity

Right-click on any of the avatars shown on the left side of any thread. You should get a list of options like "Open Link In New Window", "Open Link In New Tab", etc. About halfway down that list will be "Save Image As..." This is the one you want to click on. Save the image to your hard drive where you can find it once again.

Then use whatever image editing software you have to add the border -- I can't give you details instructions on adding the border since the exact process will vary from program to program.

wraitdt, I'd love to see a process writeup on that Men At Arms pic, really nice textures.

I know for sure that I will not win top prize - trying to style avatars with paint, Office Publisher and Office Picture manager is hard - however I do hope that they do end up in the avatar gallery as they go quite well with the Org's existing RTW styled artwork collection.

I thought it was about time the Mongols invaded.......


This is a three part painting of the Battle of Liegnitz, April 9th 1241. I am about to frame this with the outer pieces mounted slightly forward to give a bit of a 3D effect. When I upgrade the PC I must look into trying out one of those tablets but until then it's watercolours

Nice work Orda! Did you pen in the detail lines or is that all very painfully done in watercolour? Very impressive in either case.

Good lord Orda, that piece is great! I love it. You definately have some hidden art skillz. I think it would look even more amazing if you painted it in photoshop. How long did it take you do to that?

They are pen and ink with watercolour applied last.

Pinching the odd hour here and there was getting me nowhere, so I had a few days off to get it finished. Forgetting preliminary idea sketches it was probably somewhere around 20-30 hours or maybe longer, the pen and ink detail was never ending.

I think it would look even more amazing if you painted it in photoshop.

I have absolutely no experience with PC art programs but it was seeing the wonderful effect you achieve in your work that has me really interested in trying it out. If you could give me any advice of what tools etc to get I would really appreciate it, Wraithdt. It will be a nice little 'extra' when I upgrade the PC

Ive edited the post on page 2 with my entry to include the full original piece of artwork I took the avatar from :)

I asked wraithdt about writing up a process description of how he did the Men At Arms picture. He kindly consented and PM'd me with it, and since a couple of people have expressed an interest in seeing that, I thought I would at least post a link to it. It's a single image, 400K, so expect a little load time if you aren't on broadband.

Very well worth it though, thanks very much to wraithdt!
