    Default Emergent Factions

    A few questions;

Are emerging factions only possible with BI?

How much can we mod the conditions in which they appear?

Also can we use scripting to change the name of a faction and some faction details during the game?

I think so as I don't think RTW.exe supports hording at all.
You can however run a RTW campaign under BI.exe using -mod or -mod:my_mod

    HISTORIC EVENT EMERGENCE (like slavs)
(To run RTW campaign under BI and get historic event emergence,
you have to internally re-name one faction to 'slavs' for any faction to spawn! - see this thread for research:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=59665)

You can change timing and position they appear in campaign/descr_events.txt, i.e.
    event emergent_faction slavs
    date 3 summer
    region Britannia_Inferior
the date refers to number of turns from start - the region has to be a province that borders edge of map - they won't appear in central regions!

Note: If you add event to make another faction emerge you have to add corresponding lines in text/historic_events.txt - like
    {THE_FRANKS_EMERGE_TITLE} blah blah
    {THE_FRANKS_EMERGE_BODY} blah blah

The troops and numbers they appear with is set by the hording section in descr_sm_factions (and obviously they need to have horde units set up)

    OTHER TYPES OF EMERGENCE:
The other ways factions emerge is set between descr_strat and descr_sm_factions, i.e by shadowing which also makes loyalty apply (look at empire_east /rebels settings in both those files.)

By spawned_on_revolt, see goths / ostrogoths.

The Romano_British emergence trigger is hard coded I think to when empire_west loses regions with 'britain' hidden resource- all you can change on them is to alter regions which have 'britain' resource -
or not use it at all if you don't want them to emerge or they start on map.

    -------------------------------------
More is probably possible using scripting functions - spawn_army etc., but I'm not familiar with that - and hence can't help on last question either....

Thanks for that , do all emerging factions have to be a hoarde, what about the rebel roman factions that spawn in cities after rebelions?

Factions emerging like slavs, via events.txt have to be horde.

If you look at sm-factions you'll see that goths/ostrogoths are horde,
romano_british, empire_east / empire_east_rebels etc. aren't.. I haven't experimented with spawn_on_revolt or shadowing (except to disable them) - so can't say what effect would be of trying to vary that or trying to apply those types of emergence to other factions, sorry.

Having the attribute 'horde' in sm_factions just means that they _can_ horde, not that they must appear as a horde. As Makayane says, if a faction appears due to an event on the side of the map then obviously they have to start off as a horde, aside from that Ostrogoths spawn on revolt (which means the first revolt in a Goths settlement will lead to their emergence in that settlement) and the WRE and ERE are shadowed by their rebel counterparts which means that all rebellions in their provinces go to their rebel versions.
