Default Heroes of Might and Magic V

Well, I read a lot of good things about this one. Anybody of you had some experience with it? I really enjoyed number III of the series and this part is supposed to be similar, so I read.

And would I be able to put all the eye candy on with my good old:
    2.4 Ghz
    1.5 Gig Ram
    ATI Radeon 9600 (256Mb)

I actually like HOMM V quite a lot - nothing tremendously innovative in terms of gameplay compared to HOMM 3 (which played endlessly, and which I still play from time to time, especially when) I have to settle for using my wife's laptop for gaming), but certainly lots of fun if you loved HOMM 3
And considering HOMM 4 (although I also liked that one) I would not say that innovation is necessarily is an improvement.

I assume that it will run fine on your machine (I have a 3.2 Ghz with 1 Gig RAM and a card that is comparable to yours - I did not haver any problems with it).

Any specific questions regarding the game?

An expansion will come up quite soon, BTW

We had a big thread back when HOMM5's demo appeared, and it continued on after release. It's a bit old to merge into this thread, I suppose, so I'll leave it at a link.

I enjoyed it, despite possible appearances at the end of that old thread. The inferno campaign was my least favourite, and unfortunately it took me a long time to get past it at the couple of hours I was managing to play per week. Computer problems prevented me from finishing it; windows died and my savegames were lost. I couldn't face spending another month slogging my way back through the inferno campaign to get back to where I was, so I never did reinstall. If the expansion is good I shall likely pick it up, and that will be a good time to reinstall and begin over.

Thnx for the link froggy . Got a lot to read this evening Poor eyes...

Thnx for the offer Ser Clegane . I was already decided for about 80 % to get the game. Maybe I'll come back to you if I would encounter any problems during gameplay.

Back to work now, have to earn my money, otherwise: angry boss , fired , no money , no HOMMV, no new pc , no M2TW... =

    Damn capitalistic system.

I would recommend you try the demo - it gives quite a good flavour of the game, IMO.

I bought two copies - one for my son and one for me, as we both really liked Homm3. However, neither of us have progressed beyond the first campaign. Unlike Homm3, I think HommV is more oriented around the campaigns, which is a shame as I think these were a drag even in Homm3.

HommV is ok, I guess. It's just the gameplay seems to crawl - with Homm3, you could make a lot of progress even on extra large maps within a couple of hours. In HommV, it takes so long to do anything. (HommIV was painfully slow to play too.)

I also find the graphics annoyingly computer intensive - I guess I am an old stick in the mud, but the campaign map does not look any prettier than Homm3 to me and is just slow n fiddly to control.

The writing and acting is a big step backwards from HommIVs - it's absolutely awful.

Maybe I should give it more time, but that is what it seems to really need - a lot of time - and there are so many better games I would rather be playing.

See, that's the problem. I was one of those who blasphemed (tm) by actually liking HoMM4. But that's because its campaign are pretty impressive writing-wise. Much better than most of the games out there in terms of content, so I don't mind following the occasionally dragging scenarios.

HoMM5's campaigns just sound incredibly generic. Not to mention it screams either "Tolkien!!" or "Warcraft!!" everywhere occasionally. The underground dark elves are a neat idea, though, despite the fact that having their women dressed like exotic prostitutes aren't helping.

Well, HoMM5 campaigns are IMHO far more interesting than HoMM3&4 ones.

HoMM was totally crappy story-wise ("God, the baddies are invading us, let's ally with the Wizards and the Elven to kick them back.").
It was somewhat better with HoMM4, but the fact that all the plot was revealed through 2 sentences-long pieces of text wasn't really entertaining. It also didn't fall in the rather old "Epic War between Good and Evil" kind of story.

But HoMM5 campaigns are really entertaining. Although it's centered on a huge war between Good and Evil, there are a lot of surprising events, and at the end of the second campaign, I couldn't say who's the Good and who is the Evil anymore. I wouldn't say it's the best video-game plot ever, but it's still better than what I would've expected coming from yet another fantasy-based video game.

Gameplay-wise, it's quite similar to Heroes 3, with some improvements (the primary and secondary skills system is quite complex, kinda similar to HoMM4).

Well, if we are to compare which one is the best, I will give a hands up for the first one.. (Heroes of Might and Magic) <--- One.

I can't give you any reasons, because I was too young then to really remember anything other than I really enjoyed it.. In HoMM3, it was the same as Heroes one I guess just with better graphics. Though, one thing was missing that is, I remember in Heroes one there were many more things you could do.. (Don't know.. Maybe more custom scenarios.. ?!)
"Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much."
