    Default Famous Israeli People

    Hey guys,

I'm doing Holocaust class right now. Currently, I have to look for a biography of a notable Israeli person. But I'm out of real ideas. I'd prefer to read about military/political figures if at all possible.

Can some of you give me a few people who you think have biographies on them, and what they are famous for? Then I can go look to see if they have any books for them at my library.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Do you think the Golden Rule should apply to masochists as well?

You said you'd prefer a military (or political) person this is a pretty "entertaining" person...

This roadway would prove one of the main strategic hinges of the battle. "For the next 20 hours, Zvika Force, as he came to be known on the radio net, fought running battles with Syrian tanks—sometimes alone, sometimes as part of a larger unit, changing tanks half a dozen times as they were knocked out. He was wounded and burned but stayed in action and repeatedly showed up at critical moments from an unexpected direction to change the course of a skirmish."[21] For his actions, Zvika became a national hero in Israel.
Oh... but I don't know if there is a biography for him...

"One of the nice things about looking at a bear is that you know it spends 100 per cent of every minute of every day being a bear. It doesn't strive to become a better bear. It doesn't go to sleep thinking, "I wasn't really a very good bear today". They are just 100 per cent bear, whereas human beings feel we're not 100 per cent human, that we're always letting ourselves down. We're constantly striving towards something, to some fulfilment"

I believe it is supposed to be famous Jews in general. I don't know why I specified Israelites now that I think about it. However, Israeli history is something I think I'd like to learn a little bit about, so famous israelis is what I will try to focus my search on.

Although he was not israeli himself, he was one of the promoters of the creation of israel but also one of the greatest writers that have existed.

I believe he now lives in New York, but I recommend Alexander Kimel. Survivor from Warsaw that fought in the uprising.

He has a weblog as well, with lots of information.

Einstein was jewish, and so were Oppenheimer and Teller. The latter two were scientists who were very important for the US' nuclear weapons program (don't believe that either were religious, though)

Theodore Herzl, who's considered the founder of political zionism.
