Yes, I too wonder what's up with all the miraculous cures. It's clear that the original organization that built the facilities is playing some sort of experiment here. A lot of viewers, including me, thought the same thing. Until the writers said in an interview that that's not the case. They also said at one point, while the second season was running, that they had no idea what the numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) actually meant. Don't know if it was a joke but it certainly ticked me off.
What do you make of the survey station at Antarctica that recorded the hatch explosion and then called one of the others (the female interrogating Jack, also related to Desmond) on the phone while she's already on the island?
