Ontario to New York; "Don't dump your sex offernders on us!"

The strange case of Malcolm Watson (a US citizen) a former high school teacher at Buffalo Seminary in Cheektowaga New York state who was convicted of sexually assualting a 15 year old student. Who instead of a prison term of 1 year will live with his wife (a Canadian citizen) and their three kids on 3 years probation. Who happen to live in St. Catharines Ontario. He was given probation because he had no priors and the relation ship was consentual, if both wrong and illegal. Anyway the Primier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, is fixing to have 2 kittens and a canary over the decision. And wants to work with Ottawa to boot Watson out. His comments to the CBC;

I hope that we are of one mind in this regard so that we don't become some kind of a dumping ground for convicted offenders."

"It's obviously not the kind of precedent that we want to allow the Americans to establish, and it's not the kind of thing we're prepared to accept."

That there is typical rhetoric our elected official use when discussing US decisions they don't like.

The minister of immigration had this to say;

"If anyone who is a non-citizen is living in Canada who we perceive to be a threat to the public, we're going to remove them as quickly as we can."

They really don't know what to think yet.


Also the Niagra regional police are investigating to see if Watson poses a threat to the community. If they determine he might be a threat then they could put him under house arrest or something. Which considering what he did would be a fate worse than 1 year in prison.

What? I thought Canada was supposed to be the land of love and tolerance. After all, had he not been a teacher, this would've been totally legal in Canada.

And this seems to be a pretty light sentence.

He's 20 years older not 5. Even here it would have been a crime. Which one I'm not so sure of, statutory rape IIRC.

Canadians should welcome him with Open Arms, then the mounties can re-arrest him, and Beirut can sharpen his axe and test it out on "softer materials" so that he doesn't dull the blade too much.
