Default Bridge Battles: Fun again! (IE FIXED!)

Alright folks, I modded the new demo and somehow I got new battle maps. The first was the ocean... So everyone died <_<. The second was a massive forest with two clearings on either side, and the third was a bridge. Now, remember those days in RTW when bridge battles meant the biggest lag fest in recorded history? Or how about how you lost because a guy got stuck on the bridge, and your unit couldn't kill them? Well, FEAR NO MORE. I just played a fantasic bridge battle (20 Chivalric Dismounted knights against a number of pikemen, sword and buckler men, and two units of 9 chevron Muskets) With -NO- Uber lag that we experienced in RTW, nor the Horrible pathing. Units went over clean, and the fighting was enjoyable to watch. Not to mention watching my Muskets rake the bridge side! I had alot of the knights rout and return to battle later, and I saw not one snag onto the bridge, units stayed together and the assault over the bridge was very intense, with the full army pushing against my bridge defenders!

    Pictures:

I'm actually going to be looking forward to bridge battles now, CA has done alot of work from RTW 1.5!

I'm glad they work ok now, in RTW bridge battles could be a nightmare. The battle looks really intense

The graphics look sweet, all except that huge flagpole on that musketeer in the last picture.

    Nice job, Tiger!

Would you mind to explain how you modded it or post a link to a source?

the only time i enjoyed bridge battles was when i was defending if you could hold em on the bridge they'ed eventually route. attacking however was almost suicidle especially against phalanx based armies!

Well if you think about it you are advanicing into a wall of 10 foot spears that you can't flank, it's not meant to be easy. I did an experiment, I made an enormous Roman legionry army (10x urban cohorts, 10x First Legionary Cohorts), then I gave myself two units of Spartans (if I only had one it would be minced by the Legion's pila) and 4 units of archers, everyone (on both sides) was max promoted, needless to say I won.

The question is unless the odds are greatly in the A.I.'s favour will they at least not attempt to assault the bridge on the harder campaign difficulties

No, it isn't only for the original demo. Follow ShellShock's first link. On the last page a utility that extracts data.pack and loads custom battles is described. It works. I'm not sure about editing. The format followed in the descr_battle.txts is simple, and it's easy to change the units and factions involved in a battle, but changing their starting positions can't be sensibly done without some other tool. Somebody else probably has more information.
