OK, my fault for not checking that you had the custom maps Warman. Your STWmod worked using the standard MTW maps. Installing the maps to the \battle\maps subfolder wouldn't corrupt your install. All that would do is put the maps in \battle\maps\battle\maps. You could cut and paste them from there up to \battle\maps and delete the extra \battle\maps stub.
Remember, when you install MTW + VI you then have to apply the v2.01 patch before you install the mod. The best thing to do is keep an MTW/VI v2.01 install that you don't change, and just copy the whole thing to a new folder and install the mod on that. That way you never have to install MTW/VI more than once. Then make a shortcut to the medieval_tw.exe, and put -strictserver (leave a space in front of the "-") as an argument on the target line of the shortcut. You can also put -ian if you want to use unlimited camera for watching replays (you can go as high as you want with the camera for a nice overview). This is disabled in multiplater.
