    Default Startup Problem

just did a clean install of Rome total war, with the 1.2 patch, and the EB .72 mad with the .74 patch, and when i try to load it says:

    error:filename doesn't exist:eOa?[]

the e had a forward slash on top of it, the O had an umalaut, the a had a squiggle and the [] was actually a box

i was wondering whether this was a corrupt download or somewrong with my install.

    A corrupt download, maybe?

I had this problem when I installed EB for the first time...however, I had V1.3 installed (V1.0 from RTW and then upgraded to V1.3 through Barbarian expansion).

I uninstalled the lot, installed RTW, patched it to 1.2 then installed both EB and the EB patch 0.7.4. Worked fine after that.

This error occurs when you try and install EB over the 1.3-1.6 patches. It's possible you didn't install the 1.2 patch properly.

What version of RTW is on the CDs? If it's RTW Gold then it automatically comes patched to 1.5 (and 1.6 when you install BI). There is a method of 'de-patching' RTW, but you're best bet would be to just wait for 0.8.

    You're avondland, right?

Well if you can't wait for 0.8 try to do a search here, somewhere someone explained how to depatch to 1.2 in this subforum.
