    Question Portraits

One thing that has always annoyed me about the game is the generic-ness of all the portraits. It looks like they just used 10 different backgrounds, faces, shirts and hair styles, and mix and switch them around to make all the portraits in the game. (ok maybe a slight exaggeration and I do mostly play Catholic factions)

I did see one portrait pac in a file in the downloads on one board. (But it was mainly fantasy pictures)

Did anyone ever make a better set of portraits for the game?

    Thanks,

Same here, I prefer them to those in Rome, though the Artwork in STW wins by a mile.

Yeah, real medieval portraiture was even less original and more generic!

How come 95% of all the princesses are extremely ugly though?

    5% are very ugly

Unfortunately they do appear to have fallen from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Seriously though I think it's a nice touch myself. It adds to the atmosphere. They are so horrible that you don't mind marrying them off to your worst enemy's cowardly, gluttonous and utterly perverted devil worshipping son. Nor do you feel the need to call off the assassin at the last moment. Just one look at the portrait and you're bound to tell him to just go ahead. They're the unhappy victims of the game. I see it as a sort of "parody" more than anything else.

    Harsh, but true.

I agree. Whenever I think of princesses in MTW, the image of the Monty Python actors playing women always comes to my mind unbidden.

There are some hot blondes in the Viking Invasion campaign

But seriously; the portraits in this game look far better than in MTW2. They add to the atmosphere and look really medieval hehe. In comparison the portraits on MTW2 look like they're made with a Photoshop tutorial or something.
