I like all the factions I have seen so far, but like England (boring) Portugal, Hungary, Poland and Milan (probably will be copycat states of Spain, Russia/Byzantium, and Venice, respectively) somewhat less

Huh, difficult question. Presumably I will only play HRE, Danes, Scots and Turks, perhaps Spanish or Portugese. From the rest I maybe like the Russian faction least.

(later chorus -containing a wrong regimental name for the Bayreuth-Dragoner (DR Nr. 5) - of the "Hohenfriedberger Marsch", reminiscense of a battle in 1745 AD, to the music perhaps of an earlier cuirassier march)
Portugal and Aztecs. Portugal shouldn't be in the game, it only became an independent knigdom in 1139, and it colonised Africa and the East, not America.
I also don't like the look of Scotland, Poland, or Denmark.

Do you know that big chunk of land in South America, that is called Brazil and the people there speack Poruguese? Guess why...![]()
LEAST acttracted nations
(no order)
England: Never played England/UK in MTW1, EU2, Victoria, etc.(except several turns) They are too strong and had good location for defence, so no challenge for me.
Moors: Started as them as tests. Without pope, game was so dull and boring. Maybe same for Rus, Egypt, Turk.
Portugal: Why basque???
For myself, Hungary is the most interesting and challenging. 4 fronts war against HRE, Venice, Byzantine, Poland is really exciting, plus mighty mongols.

Egypt doesn't appeal to me at all
Maybe they will come out with African Invasion.Oh and didn't they control what is now Brazil? And for least favorite faction, I guess England (not), but I am tired of just about everyone talking about them. Can't wait to beat them with some Islamic faction (or Italian).Originally Posted by Ignoramus

England, but that might just be because I'm Scottish![]()
Seriously though, probably the French, their starting position never appealed to me in MTW either.
Egypt and Aztecs.
"Its just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?"

Err, but arn't Aztecs non playable anyway? They're an emerging faction, or so I thought...
Haven't seen much from the other factions. I think Ill jump on the bandwagon and say Hungary.
Factions that I never played in MTW because I just didn't care for them:
Poland
Hungary
Egypt
Almohads
France
I'd have to say France is probably the faction I'm interested in, they're pretty much just shiny knights and men at arms. I'm more for the irregular warfare types, like the Turks, with Horse Archers and such.
Poland was another boring one. No crusades, and their unique unit was absolutely useless since you couldn't get it till late in the game, and early era knights were better than it.
Never played as Hungary because their position annoyed me, a terrible start location all around. Szekely were fun though.

Hungary.. Russia.... serbia.. no offence to anyone who mite originate from those countries..
"…Birds of battle screech, the grey wolf howls, spears rattle, shield answers shaft. …Then many a thegn, laden in gold, buckled on his sword-belt. …The hollow shield called for bold men"s hands..."
The French.....I mean come on they are french (Yes that is a biast remark from a German) and the Hungarians

Yes SIGGE you had understood it good.
For example the military power only in XV century Poland (allied with Lithuanians) was bigger than in XV century England and don't forget about Turkey and Hungary which could easily destroy France in these periods.
And what about 10-11 century when the battles between HRE and Poland where fought and Poland survive it with no special problems. Is it a prove of military power or what?
Woah, is it just me or is there waaaaay to much testostorone in this thread.
People not wanting to play a faction for whatever reason should be cool with everyone else surely??? I like to think of it as not getting value (or diversity) for you hard earned $$$ when buying the game.
As a New Zealander (and hence interested in the Gallipolli theme here) I would point out that we got our behinds handed to us on a plate by the Turks. I point out that 90 odd years later Australia, New Zealand AND Turkey gather to remember what happened there. At the same place I might add - and with very little trouble (despite the differences in religion). This battle is far more recent than many battle some of the people here seem to take so personally.
And after all this who will I not be playing??? Probably the Turks - because we fought tooth and nail 90 years ago??? No - I am just useless with the troop types they have![]()

People find boring the eastern european factions (aka Hungary, Russia, Poland here), because in all the TW Games (either ancient or medieval themed) the east-european factions and provinces are ahistoricall, there was very little research done on them, they look like they are unfinished and simply thrown in the game like that, etc....
I must say i am supprised people here dislike hungary so much
they were by far my favourite faction in mtw and taught me how to really use mounted skirmishers to good effect
i much prefer the factions with more unusual troop rosters than the basic speamen archers knights lineup that gets progressively more powerful
ps tho i will be beelin if i see any elehpants with guns in m2tw
Having started some six different campaigns, my worst to best list:
Aztecs
Mongols
Timurids
Egyptians
Moors
Russians
Byzantines
Seljuks
HRE
Scotland
Hungary
Sicily
Danes
Portugal
Poland
Milan
Castile
France
England
Venice
Venice I enjoyed very much. I bet the colors (dark red/gold) influenced it a lot too, as they are my fav's (nostalgia of England in MTW1). And also I like the catholic factions with knights and stuff by far the most, thats what medieval means to me.
The HRE never appealed, they are just too big at the beginning with too many foes, and completely landlocked and surrounded... its not too much fun.
And here is a bit of laugh from venice crusade:

Portugal.... not overly excited with them
not really crazy about any of the powerhouses or Muslim nations... i always play as Poland :D (which i wish was more historically accurate)
O xein', angellein Lakedaimoniois hoti täde
keimetha tois keinon rhämasi peithomenoi!
Maybe next time, make it a poll :)
Egypt. Horse Archers and Camels. bah!
Least attracted to the French and the jocks, although the stuff they say is brilliiant, best i have heard.
I think it's why i like the English the best as you interact and war with them both.
Never fancied the Hungarians either, especially as their a horrible salmon colour.
Denmark...meh
I support Israel
All the nations seem to have really fleshed out rosters except egypt, scots and byzantines which seem utterly rushed. Come to think of it the Russia roster is a bit stale too, and their campaign performance has clearly not been tested. Aside from those i love all the other factions. I just hope someone adds more units to the muslim and eastern-european factions.
The Byzantines really got the shaft. Has anyone tried them in MP? I can't imagine how they'd survive, they have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Since the Varangians are useless their infantry is mediocre at best. Kataphraktoi are the weakest heavy cav in the game. Their archer's aren't as good as England or the Muslim factions. All they have are the Vadblahblahblahfart horse archers, who are hardly a war winning unit. Sigh...they were one of my favorite factions too.
least fav? england, france, spain, ities, there doesnt seem to be anything all that different about them...
The true test of a man is not at his great moment, but at his weakest point. -me
Portugal are of little interest to me.....
Egypt. No draw there. They are really just a filler "Non-Moorish, Non-Turkish Islamic Faction".
The Hungarians have little draw for me too. Why not put in the Romanians and battle the Turks for Transylvania.
