Default Will the new world ever happen?

When looking att the pics from the guy who got the game you can see that every turn seems to be about two years. If america is discovered in 1492 it would give you 19 turns to sail over there, conquer it and start making profits from it. I know turns was discussed a long time ago and how they would work. I actually dont remember what ca said back then. My hope though is to be able to play longer then a few turns in the later stages of the game.

Default Sv: Will the new world ever happen?

Certain dates will probably be dynamic like in RTW and I think the ability to travel across is one date that I feel should be dynamic.

    Lets hope so.

Ok, if it will be dynamic when would you guys like it to happen? I would love to see it early or half way through. That would sting in the historical loving part of my hart though.

My guess is that it'll happen when one faction is advanced enough to build Caravels/Carracks and/or sends some ships there.
However I plan to use my Viking longboats to discover North America by 1100 AD

Well, actually America was discovered lot more earlier by many occasions. Even from the European's point of view it were the vikings who discovered it around 1000 (probably somewhat before). The reason why we still regard Colombus as the person who "discovered" America is that the vikings had neither the military advantage nor the populational advantage to succesfully colonise America. (hindered by the fact that they were sending their expeditions form the Greenland colonies which were never strong enough on the first place to support a succesful colonisation).

    vikings in North America:

Thus what we regards as the "discovery" is actually the first succesful colonisation by Europians. (Perhaps a discovery from the Europian political and economical point of view.)

In terms of gameplay this means that America "should be there" for anyone who has the technology and population numbers to succesfully colonise it, just as "it was there" for the vikings (who for the above reasons were unable to live with the opportunity).
