Remember the 10th of November
I, hereby, want to indicate my grief for the greatest loss Turkey ever had in his birth years, for the man he owes his birth to -Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
One of the greatest statesmen, commander, revolutionist of all the time died on November 10, 1938.
If you have an idea about what he did and want to share the grief, please join in. I did not open this thread for a Turk-bash opportunity -if you somehow don't like the man, avoid flaming please, PM me instead.

For his efforts at reconciliation, and his actions to create a modern, democratic and secular state from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire, I, too, salute him.Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets where they lie side by side here in this country of ours... You the mothers who sent your sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

My thoughts are with him. Was a great man and he did great things. Truly one of the great leaders of the 19/20th century

Why not celebrate it as a birthday? AFAIK the Turks celebrate his life as the birth of the modern Turkish state. So celebrating the date as a birthday seems exactly in the right spirit.

That's how it looked like in Istanbul when he was dead. I doubt we can see the day for something good. 57 years was too quick.

He was quite a man, and achieved greatness. Made a few blunders though that cost millions of lives - but you can't create an omlette without a fair bit of slaughtering.

This is probably off topic:
Sadam Hussein is charged for genocide on Kurds and he deserved to be punished for that but when Turkiye suppress Kurds this is ok for international community? How many times Turkish army entered in Iraq in Hussein era to hunt Kurd? Because Turkiye is strategic partner of US and then is everything allowed. Why Kurds (over 10 millions) are not recognized as minority in Turkiye Cumhuriyeti?

This is nothing personal. Turkiye is 3rd (or 4th) most popular tourist destination among Serbs and Istanbul is very attractive for weekend shopping among merchants and ordinary citizens of Serbia.

Kurds live on equal life standards, if not better, in Turkey with anyone else. Numerous parliamenters right now are Kurd, Internal Affairs minister is Kurd, once prime minister and president Turgut Özal was Kurd, one of the most known singers in Turkey, İbrahim Tatlıses is Kurd, poet/writer/actor Yılmaz Erdoğan is Kurd, and there are millions of examples to that. What oppression is that are you speaking of? Why do foreigners love clicking through websites and jump to conclusions? What was that Serbians did to Bosnians? Do trials change the fact that you slaughtered Bosnians? While you have a mount of dirt in front of your door, why complaining about the neighbor's?
Do you know what PKK is? Have you ever heard about 30.000 loss of Turks?
