Default Questions for people with game

Hey I'm a long time player and viewer first time poster etc...
I get the game tuesday, but in the meantime i was wondering if people with the game could answer a few questions for me please.

For example, when you've created a crusading army and have to get to...let's say jerusalem, do you have to get military access to other catholic nations/eastern orthodox to march through their lands...plus wouldn't the turks try to stop you if you're just marching through turkey to attack another islamic faction?

Also can the pope expand the papal states like he could in MTW? If so will you be excommunicated if he attacks you?

And on a historical note i noticed that the musketeers wear ripped tunics...stupid question but I was wondering why were they ripped, was it purely the time's fashion or was there some purpose for it?

sorry for the stupid questions... hope to see some of you in multiplayer!

Regarding Crusading, I just marched from Caen to Jerusalem without needing military access with anybody. Didn't go through any Turkish lands, Byzantine all the way.

Armies and settlements that aren't allied to you will exert a zone of control that can take a while to get through/bypass though, plus if you take too long not moving towards your objective you lose men through desertion. You can pick up mercenaries en route though, so no worries.

Right, time to find out what these Egyptians are made of.

P.S If you're buying from a shop in Blighty, WH Smith's for the win. Got it for £24.99, which is £10 cheaper than Game.

Yes - I found that out by accident. You're in Nottingham too? Game in the Victoria Centre had a wrestler or some such celeb signing a game in store today, so they were not admitting common shoppers. So I went down to Smiths and was pleasantly surprised. Cheaper than the Amazon pre-order I cancelled (after postage).

For the record, the slashed tunics were indeed a fashionable thing for the times; people liked to show off the fancy silks and so forth that they were wearing underneath their overclothes.

Think of it like guys today with their shirts unbuttoned halfway to show off "bling"

    not a big deal :)

also regarding crusading..i'm a little dissapointed in fighting for Jerusalem. Any other town is a duke out by the thousands but every time I take Jerusalem it's like Egypt doesn't really care.

Most certainly am. I quite often check Smith's as well as game, being as they're so close to each other and they quite often have different prices on the same thing.

Back to the crusading thing, if you get bored of walking an didn't bring any shipping of your own, you can of course hire mercenary ships now, which was a pleasant surprise. Being able to retrain mercs is nice too.

Not seen the Pope expanding yet, might try a game with one of the Italian lot or the HRE, as they're a lot closer to Rome, territory-wise.

If you have a crusading army going through a nation your at war with, for example france...would the french be able to attack your crusading army or are they only prone to attack from islamic factions?

I am pretty sure Catholic faction cannot fight a Crusade army. I like to think that the crusade army is an army of the Papal States, being led by, for example, a French General.

Continuing the theme, I wonder if Crusading armies get a free pass for Catholic lands? I mean if you took a normal army and went stomping about nothing short of another army could actually stop you, but you would be annoying a lot of people...

In MTW you used to have the whole "the HRE welcome you crusading army and allow to pass freely" thing... And you had to give premission to other crusading armies too if they entered your lands (or fight them)...

I wonder if this is automated now...

Question: is excommunication a factor in M2TW? (as opposed to a minor annoyance)

Not got excommunicated myself so don't know. However potentially, if you get excommunicated, then your regions are then potential targets for crusades. You can do the same to other factions as well. I was particularly evil when one of my allies was excommunicated. I used the opportunity to try and call a crusade down on them so I could see if another faction would weaken some of its own armies. I would then move in and grab a region or two off the crusading faction.

Didn't work though, pope didn't particularly like me at the time and ignored my request

Looks to me like they can't attack you - I had the whole British Isles (as Scotland) and sent a crusading army through the English lands in France while at war with them. Even a full stack left it alone.

There was a scary moment when the only general leading the crusaders died. The white cross above it disappeared and I got a message saying I had one turn before the units started deserting (or was it before they all deserted? Not sure). Managed to get a replacement general over the channel and joined up in one move). So note: send a spare general with crusades.

And one thing I don't think anyone else has said: crusading armies travel at double movement speed which makes overland travel more attractive (though getting stuck in other units' zones of control is a pain).

From what i've heard if you conquer rome the pope asks another catholic faction for a province, then the papacy will set up there...I don't know if it is really possible to destroy the papacy. But then again, what happens if you have every province but rome and then take rome?

You can't destroy the papacy. They use the horde mechanic from BI if you take all of their provinces.

What if you assassinate every single cardinal/pope/priest on the map?

I know very unlikely but, its possible.

So I'm assumaing then there won't be any big, elite army coming to re-take Rome every five turns................. I like this much better than the old medieval. It actually makes it possible to hold the peninsula.

LOL another Venice player i see ............ I would assume that the Pope would just die out (hopefully).

Is the horde composed of fairly strong units, or is it just more papal fodder for my armies. Also, is is possible to buy Rome through Bribery?
