Chapter 8
January the First 1916 – March the 1st 1916
The clear morning sun in Britain rose through the sky, as ships left the harbor. The water slowly gave in, f British Ships left the ports surrounding England, and met off the coast of Ireland, then strangely disappeared. Days later they appeared off the icebergs of the Atlantic. They entered the danger area; at once several ships struck icebergs. Thousands of soldiers froze to death. They all hated it, they were to help Canada, and soon some engines had shut down as they froze. Eventually the whole fleet stopped, all were stranded in Waters, trying to reach Canada during the winter times. The Generals had met, and were extremely angry at the Captains, although it wasn’t there fault. Of the soldiers sent over with the fleet (The one stuck in the Atlantic icebergs) there was several from the failed invasion of Italy, they were fed and clothed in England. Lots were reunited with families and friends. Until the order went out from the High Command. All soldiers from the Failed Italian Invasion were to be shipped across the Channel. These soldiers were ready, and trained. And were easily organized. By that time it was February, and the spare ships arrived to cross them. Soon all soldiers were on Belgian land. Trucks arrived later on, although they were in a rush, and transported some soldiers. A lot were left behind to walk and ride, but many arrived at Brussels in a day’s time. Construction began and site s were raised. The Belgian soldiers and citizens in England were massed and lectured on how to fight properly. Though most of the Belgians were already good at fighting, but soon a Home Guard unit was organized, and was trucked off to training grounds.
The American Generals ponder over maps. After hours of discussion they came to a fine conclusion. At once telegrams were sent out to all major army bases, and the armies started there moves. With no troops in the open from the Canadian Army, many American Armies could easily maneuver. Of course they could not use trucks, as they would be disabled in the snow, nor planes, as these new ‘planes’ were not trusted and what could they even do? There is two major railings crossing around the side of Canada, but these two cannot carry much, though they used it anyway. The soldiers were packed onto the trains, and they took off, heading towards all major ports around the West Coast of Canada. After the first 4 trainloads of men had come through, they prepared to attack. The lines were assembled, and at 7:32 AM, February the 10th, 2 American battalions attacked the iced over Hudson Bay. It was bombed first off, although there were only two cannons, it did minor damage, and it broke the ice. The double line of soldiers ran in, firing continuously, but the Canadians fought back with 2 machine guns located in upper buildings. Then the Americans reached the outer buildings, finding cover against the onslaught of the machine guns, and called in a Cannon Strike on the Machine gunners. At once a shell hit one building, killing one machine gunner and 20 Canadians, but also killed 6 Americans.
The second gunner moved spots, but was shot when moving. Another two trainloads of Americans had come, and they were backed up with another Battalion, soon Hudson Bay was overran, and if the British or allies of Canada landed, they’d have a welcoming party, messy.
In Japan the Japanese waited silently, unnerving many American Soldiers. They occupied ghost towns; the Japanese were hidden in outer mountains and cities. And soon they would attack. The President ordered for the Army to attack the small island of Shikoku, the President also ordered for the army to move out of there position if needed, the Generals discussed this and generally disagree with that, but they shall leave all the same, but keep 1 BB of the coast. The army moved off, the landing commenced, and at that the Japanese responded.
The small row boats rowed up to the Japanese beaches, all was quiet, silent, no sounds of war, only the swishing of the waves. The man in the boats heaved, as they paddled through the water. The got ready to jump, there were hundreds of boats, then the rattle opened up. There was several pierces of wind, and bullets pounded into the boats, killing hundreds of soldiers. They jumped out of boats, and were shot in the water. There was a boom and a boat blew up, killing all inside of it. Other boats kept coming, the navy opened fire on the Japanese, and realized they were to close to shore, and there shells landed harmlessly behind the Japs. Soon the Army conceded defeat, and no more boats were sent out, the dead lined ht beaches. There was one problem with there landing spot, no cover, and the Japanese had all the cover in the world. They know knew where the Jap army was, and the navy kept shelling them. The Americans had not all of there main army, and had only a meager 40 000, and only 3 000 landed, out of the 3 000, the Japanese killed 1 500 of them, how many the Japanese lost is unknown.
Down in South America several things happened. In Chile there were several reports of disturbances, and the Chile Government reported they found 6 dead bodies in some outer villages, but what country they were from is unknown, though several suspicions have been named.
The Germans wasted no time, as they were organizing faster now. Over there last fatal defeat while attacking Brussels, they were concentrated on get past outer defenses at least. It has been 6 months and the 25 new tanks have been shipped in, as have been 500 new soldiers, to replace injured. The tanks once again assemble at the front, and advance, the fired at once, destroying anything moving. Several British machine gun posts were destroyed at once, they then came upon the latter, the areas where real defenses were. The British fired and fired, the tanks bombed away, 8 tanks were broken, and some broke down earlier. The British were weary after these attacks, but they had reinforcements and the battle effectively went on for 2 hours, but sooner or later the Germans won with superior numbers and tanks. The Germans then advanced further into the city, encountering heavy resistance, and with the loss of 2 more tanks and 2 hundred soldiers, they stopped and camped in buildings all the less setting up defenses.
Some troops were withdrawn from the German0French front and Belgian front, all boarding trains and set off for Austria, there was an estimated 5000 soldiers ready to back them up.
Several harbors reported t the British Government loss of equipment and population after they saw some ships off the coast. The British fleet is located in 3 harbors. On the 26th of February 4 ships were sunk when the quicker ships of the German Navy raided the ports, though the Germans lost one ship.
A large host of soldiers was seen moving through Serbia, though from what nation it is unknown. The siege on the Serbian and Russian survivors in Belgrade continues, and the Bulgarians are not seen around Belgrade anymore. The Allied Survivors get ready to fight there way out, but do not know that the Austrians are also loading there cannons. And as if destined the fight starts, bullets fly everywhere, the Allied Survivors fight towards the weakest spot, shooting all they can, but losing many troops. Soon the Austrian Cannons open fire on those still in the square, and in minutes the square is destroyed, as are the strugglers. The Austrian Cannons can not fire into the mass of troops, because there own are there. Soon more Austrians come and both forces are in a mess, unable to tell which army is which. Soon a flag appears on the distant horizon, and every one can tell where the Bulgarians were. It seems they had marched around the back, and there was a Camp at the back, they shot all there, and took many cannons. They soon fired around the mass of people, killing allies and enemies. Soon the Austrians were retreating, westward, where many troops of there have still remained. The Battle for Belgrade City was over, now it was the battle for Belgrade State.
The Austrians though reinforce all major cites near the siege cites, and the Russians have made no moves what so ever to attack, and the offense seems to be lacking off as the Russian tsar says nothing. Soon trainloads of German Soldiers arrive, 5000 of them. At once they set off to the outer cites which are siege, and the Austrian Soldiers in the city and the new German Reinforcements attack. The Russians were totally unprepared, and they are killed at once, all along the whole line the Russians lose, and they rout in panic. Out of the 30 000 Russian soldiers, an estimated 23 000 are killed, due to lack of leadership and no orders from there Tsar.
In Turkey hunters are sent out to find the Sultan of the ottoman Empire, he seems to have escaped far, but not far enough, he has not been found yet. The French Government does not have a lot of Tanks, as the Tanks were not a major part of war fare, although Germany seems to have mastered the Tank, as has Britain, France only has 2 Tanks at the moment, and they are not certain to work. The professors feel it safer to keep the Tanks in France for the moment. Telegrams are also sent out, and the main French army, currently camped on the French-German border, is preparing for some type of offense, though not stated where. The French army in Serbia is close to Belgrade, and was to attack the Austrians there, but that battle is over, and the Serbians, Russians and Bulgarians are chasing the Austrians. So the French army has been sent off to Austria, where they camp for now.
The Italian army recently withdrawn from France has been pulled back by the Italian Rulers, they had other ideas not stated, but they follow orders and camp at the base of the Alps. Several spots near the higher up, but not to high, are fortified, and they prepare. The Italian Railway is not the best, and only two tracks run on it leading to Austria, but the Italians use it all the less. 5 000 volunteers are sent to Austria, to reinforce them, and currently defend Austria’s back.
The war is even, the Austrian front is a fresh one, with 10 000 more Central power troops. The Belgian Front is awake, and the Americans are not going well in Japan, but well in Canada.
Decisions up soon.
A MANIFEST RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC OF SERBIA
