And now something a bit harder

I was going to guess one of the Three Princes, the Canadian National Railway passenger liners which were converted to Royal Canadian Navy armed merchant cruisers in WWII. The Prince David, Prince Henry and Prince Robert. Most liners converted to military use were only lightly armed troop transports or convoy escorts. The Three Princes underwent more extensive conversion with most of their upper decks removed and replaced with light cruiser superstructures and the addition of 4 bofors dual 40mm gun mounts, 2 each fore and aft. This seems to match the pictures anyway. Later, the David and Henry were further modified to become LSI (M) or Landing Ship Infantry Medium for the invasion of Normandy, while the Robert became an anti-aircraft escort.

However, I was confused by the inclusion of a pic of a passenger liner in the first post.

Gregoshi is a correct. The warship pics alone are of the HMS Hood.

In fact, here is that last pic, with proper attribution as the HMS Hood in the Panama Canal.

I wasn't familiar with the appearance of the Hood but it was my gut reaction as I was 100% certain it was not a US ship but looked pre-WW2. A quick search with Google confirmed my hunch.

Umm, no it's not. It's also the HMS Hood, from the same web site. It's a picture taken by plane, from 1924 near Pearl Harbor.
