    Hey guys, I'm having problems editing the descr_strat file. I'm trying to change the timescale to 0.50, and get rid of the "show date as turns" line. I've changed the properties of the file, so it's not read only anymore, but when i try to save the changes it says it cannot create the file and I need to "Make sure the path and file name are correct". Any idea's what I'm doing wrong?

    yes. i just had the same problem the other day, so i can help you out.

    copy the file to your desktop, and edit+save it there.
    then drag the file back into the medieval folder.
    it will ask you if you want it to copy over the file with the same name.
    say yes.

    and there you go

    Don't know if anyone has mentioned this as i havn't had chance to read through all 5 pages but in the miscelleneous section where the map is posted there is another difference compared to the game. The tiny island east of iberia that is normally lumped in with valencia is a separate province called Palma on that map.

    Trying to remove green triangles and banners but for some reason I do not have the "showbanners - 1" line actually in my preferences file?!? The others are and I DO have the nasty big banners in-game so I dont understand.

    Hello!
    I'm having troubles with this game, i bought it a few days ago(but already have used MTW1 and RTW and BI as well as the RTW mod EB) how do u unlock factions? I just destroyed the bizantine empire with venice but when i went on the main menu it didn't give me their simbol. Are they one of the blocked factions? if so wich is the file that contains all the factions (the one to change them from locked to unblockable and such...)?

    Is it possible to kick down ladders from walls or to destroy them as they come in?

    I discovered today that troops can knock down ladders if they are at the bottom, but couldn't do anything from the top as far as I could tell. I've never been able to destroy ladders with siege weapons or archers, and the only way I can stop them from getting to the walls is to run out with cavalry and hit the units carrying them. Sometimes they pick the ladders back up, but not too often.

    Let them reach the walls - you have a huge advantage fighting as they climb up and can usually rout the first unit up, if more come up after, even better :). You can't push the ladders down and I've never seen them destroyed before they reach the walls.

    Another nice tip for wall battles is, instead of arrow the enemy from the walls, deploy your archers just behind the walls and let enemy capture the walls. When they still trying to organize, you can arrow them from close range with extreme accuracy.

    You can also deploy archers to the walls which can see the invasion point directly. Or simply deploy them just the left of the invasion point. Melee units has a bug: At the walls, they start "engaging movements" from such long distance. I mean they start walking slowly, and that gives your archers the chance to shoot them few times directly & deadly. (If you are the attacker in same situation, dont "attack" the archers, just simply run to the point just behind them. Then your men will run, ignore the enemy archers. When they mixed enough together, you arrack and cut the enemy down. )

    Javelins are also good at the walls, especially over the gates. They can't aim in an arc so they're hits are more direct and they have a higher accuracy. Since javelins are more damaging than arrows, you can deal with a good portion of the column of enemies at the gate before they even enter. Even afterwards, they can turn around and fire into a choke point formed by spearmen. You can even use them behind the spears.

    Basically javelins are awesome. They're definitely under-appreciated due to their short range, but I think if you protect them well they can be more damaging than archers. Light-infantry javelins are the best, like Almughavars. Are those in vanilla? The ones in Stainless Steel rock. Great for hurling javelins point blank at the enemy and they forming an effective anvil to any hammer (their defense is higher than spear militia)

    In conclusion, Stainless Steel rocks. You should go download it now.

    Yes, I'm not sure what the actual requirements are, but I have a few cities with 0% religious unrest, the ones I've found have 97% or more in their religion (Catholic in my case) and I thought they all had high tier churches, but apparently one had only a small church. Worth noting is that I have many cities with just as high faith that still have religious unrest, hence I've got no idea how the works go, but I can confirm that it is possible to achive 0% religious unrest. (I'm playing Milan on VH/VH, gold edition.)
