Thread: Reputation?

    Default Reputation?

    Hello,

I have a question about reputation and that is
How do I increase my reputation? It just seems to go down and down, even though I don't break alliances or anything. Perhaps it goes down when you exterminate populations and don't occupy?

    Cause I do that alot.

It is a bit odd to say the least.

I'm in the same position, never broken an alliance yet when the French break their alliance with me its MY reputation that went down and not theirs.

Which, to say the least, is a bit odd.

And as successive allies break off to attack me my reputation keeps going down and down.

In the end i've just resigned myself to every faction attacking me and never agreeing to any further diplomacy - so i now totally ignore any diplomatic actions as it appears to be pointless in actually making alliances - all it does is ruin your reputation and, apparently, encourage being stabbed in the back.

It would be nice to find out that there is some alternative, and logical, reason behind all this.

    I live in hope.

    Wow! That's bad!

The thing that really messes things up is that reputation is important! You can almost never get military access if you have a poor reputation!

The reputation thing is not really working, note that almost each AI faction receives a bad reputation in the course of the game. It is too easy to receive a punishment in this area, especially when attacking hostile units in your territory, even when sieging your cities. Which is absolutely wrong.

Do you mean your reputation overall, or your relationship with a specific faction, as these are two different things.

If it is relationship, I would be interested in getting some advice on this too, as I didn't pay it much attention at the beginning of my campaign, and now I have poor relationships with all my neighbours and I can't seem to improve them.

Also in my game many of the factions who have broken alliances previously with any faction are shown as having a poor reputation. So I suppose improving relations with these factions isn't going to help that much.

No, I mean overall reputation, not relationship.

    How to improve it.

Sorry, was a little unclear about which one you were discussing.

The only way I can think of is to be very nice to everyone, but apparently that doesn't work.

I'm Reliable. Always completed my end of the bargain, especially when I offered assistance. I sent a force to capture Inverness to gift it to the scots! Coz I was getting annoyed with their passive nature. Now all of a sudden they're pretty pissed at the English.
No broken alliances. Couple of times that the Spanish were obviously keen on attacking me I managed to buy them off and strengthen my borders.

I'd ally with people that arent my direct neighbours, coz you know its asking for trouble when you do.

Indeed, hopefully this will be fixed in the patch.
The ONLY game where I havent been backstabbed by everybody is my England game, and that is because my stats are head and shoulders above everybody elses AND the Pope loves me (although he refuses to promote English priests >_>).
Thus far only Milan, who were the only guys who could stand up to me to, has betrayed me, and it hurt my reputation a bit. It was worth it though, because I got Paris and that city just east of it.

The French seem to have this super-arrogant AI thing going on though. The Milanese are destroying them and they wont agree to an alliance or to take a little aid. Oh well, they can go next when the great English-Danish-German-Polish-Hungarian-Venetian-Papal-Spainard alliance swings their way ;)

Its also annoying when you attack a enemies blockading fleet or a besieging army and destroy/route it then you get a relations with that faction being reduced ... well of course they were attacking me and i attacked them (not the first time eithers happened) and our relations can get worse?!?!

I found out too late that giving them your map as a present or little bits of money improve the relations. Also don't execute the prisoners of the nation or they will be unhappy too. I also had a pretty decent alliance with the english break, but I was asking for it with the Papal war and stuff. I think it should be a little easier to improve your reputation. Everyone hates me now.

I had terrible relations with Pope, i was excommunicated and after finishing Sicilians i wanted to reconciliate with Pope. I couldnt get it in one go so i started slowly. I gave him a gift 800 florints tribute for 5 turns i think.
Every turn my relationship was better and better. After 3 or 4 turns i asked again for lifting excommunication. He still was a bit pissed of but at least he now was willing to do it for 3 turn tribute of 6666. Fortunately i pass the ofer and he died in the next turn. New Pope lifted excommunication and i gave him a gift of 1500 for it. Now he loves me. I have second best standing with him. He even started to promote my priests (never happened before).
Other situation was when i had to cross my ally territory with family character. I wanted to get right of passage but they didnt agree. So i just walked through they land. They where a bit pissed of about it so i just payed them 800 florints of damages and our relationships where back to the level before incident.
