Depending on the amount of heat yes. I noticed my computer is unusually noisy after 30 minutes of play, and it calms down within 5 minutes of shutting down the program.
Of course no program can fry a card, you will get a crash and a hardlock way before the card is nearly hot enough to fry. But a random crash is a good sign of overheating.
