Pope-o-meter

Does any one else find that the pope-o-meter is working really oddly, e.g. As Spain I was building lots of Churches, had the max number of priests converting muslims and had done two crusades, naturally I had full pope-o-meter, Sicily then attacked me and I reacted badly and invaded Sicily and Southern Italy with full stacks and wiped out their navies, the pope then tells me to stop attacking them or I will be excommunicated, however I have only lost one cross on the pope-o-meter I then accidently destroy one of their navies and the pope excommunicates me, however I still am only three crosses form the top of the pope-o-meter, by this time I have decided that all of Italy must be mine, including Rome so I attack invade Rome and wipe out his full stack army, my relations with the papacy are apparently adysmal, however my pope-o-meter is about half way, I am now laying siege to Rome and have the Pope trapped, I am about to storm it, killing him in all certainty, but my pope-o-meter is still three crosses, this is plain silly, the fact that I have a lot of preists and have just built a huge cathedral in Leon nearly makes up for slaughtering his army, wiping out the Sicilians and besieging Rome!!

will the pope make a MTW style return with big stacks of nasty things a couple of turns after you bathed in his blood or will you really control the pope as some kind of puppet?

He probably will, seeing the fact you can't destroy the papal states.

According to the manual you CAN take over the papal states' territory, but the faction stays alive even with no regions. If they're region-less, they'll petition other catholic factions for a new home.

I personally cannot wait to see the papacy moving to Oslo :)
