Spartan Retreat!

I've just seen a rather interesting occurance. I have recently taken Sparta, and was mopping up some family members wandering around. I attacked one, but the general got away. Then, he did the normal backing away after battle thing, but.... he KEPT ON GOING! He traversed the whole of Greece in that one retreat!



What could have caused this?

If I had to guess, I'd say it was a combination of roads (looks like you've got highways in a couple of those provinces), the general being mounted (faster movement than infantry), and some traits/retinue that provides bonus movement.

you know, that, or the fact that hes not a spartan ruler, and therefore is a lily-livered coward who would rather kill his horse in forced march than die himself

It seems to be a RTW 1.0 bug

Yeap, its a bug. Try patching

Not a bug. He was forced to withdraw to the nearest non-hostile region. If your lands or Macedon's were not a choice he ran on Thrace. In RTW (and MTW2 I'm pretty sure) he would run at the end of the world eating the ground below, just to get into friendly/neutral teritory.
